Social media platforms, particularly Twitter, have become a runaway train of entitlement, demand and rank impatience, reflecting (as someone who works in front line public services), the long term trend in challenging, aggressive, demanding and complaining behaviours across the general public.

Some of the stuff on places like Twitter is dire, but not just about our club, I see the same about others, Blackburn, Preston, Wigan etc etc. They were saying yesterday at Blackburn that the atmosphere was better just with those in who'd chosen not to boycott, a bit like that night v Charlton when those of ours that turned up gave the team a chance and backed them well.

I don't really see this forum as a microcosm of that, by and large it's pretty reasonable, some strong views expressed, positions held, but I sometimes think 'what if we were all in the pub instead of on here, would I say 'fuck off you tosser' and flounce out at what someone might have said? No, probably not.

Ok, I’ll give this response the respect it deserves as there’s elements of truth in it, opinion that offers self-reflection but also some falsities which I’ll challenge.

Like Gonzo said you aren’t one of the screechers or UEFA A coaches. Like many on here I’ll read your opinion with respect and there’s been occasions I’ve agreed with you.

I agree in you pointing out that the large majority of my posts are positive. (But I’ll argue with good reasoning, while considering all reasonable different/negative opinion)

And I think you make a very good point about opinion on here being skewed to the negative because of our failure to translate results into meeting expectation - See I listen, reflect and sometimes acknowledge a different opinion.

Which is why I’ll challenge you on some of your other points.

“Nobody would consider me having a balanced opinion, and I have a total lack of self-awareness” is a bit harsh!

And I’m quite pleased it’s not just me self-proclaiming this!

I’ll listen and respond to others and change my mind accordingly.

The same opinion all the time I’ll challenge too - just not true. I’m not going over my posts and opinion of the last 12 months - but even the leading post on this thread talked about my doubts after Peterborough, agreeing with the negative analysis and claiming some of the criticism and discussion was fair.

And I’m not appointing myself as an arbiter of what should be posted.

Like I said in the original post - I was just simply pointing out, that this month there has, in my opinion, been some overly negative, dramatic opinion and  posts from simple fans, like ourselves who come across as self-proclaimed experts with all the answers - a lack of balance.

That’s an opinion - some will agree, others like you won’t, that’s fine which is why it’s great on here, you can have a decent, respectful debate without the nonsense and abuse you get on other social media platforms.

Looks around nervously as one of the potential UEFA A coach culprits....

On topic I side with Tombwfc on this that aside from the in game reactionary outbursts (that I tend to just skip over) the vast majority of comments are constructive, interesting opinions - and the volume that are critical or positive mirrors the fortune of the team on the whole. Social media is a cesspit but this place seems pretty sane.

Although, point taken. I might try to resurrect my separate tactics thread for the nerds like me!

Good point Ian.

The pub analogy is always a good one.

Everyone I’ve ever met off here in real life has been great - no one I wouldn’t share a pint with.

I sometimes have to check myself that if someone would say some of these things in real life at the time I’d laugh it off - looking back after the event it can be misconstrued.

Infinitely better on here than anywhere else to discuss BWFC

You are nowhere near one of the self-proclaiming experts! Says the one who is the self-proclaimed arbiter of balanced posts 😂

Just my opinion - but I enjoy reading your posts (and I must say lots of others too!)

I also like the nerd formation and tactics talk, I’ll be into that if you resurrect it!

I’m essentially only calling out two things. Those who steadfastly believe their tactical knowledge is superior (definitely not you) and the negative screechers who tend to dominate and excel when things aren’t going too well.

balance is all subjective and relative, and what side of the scales you start on

we're generally playing shit at the moment but we're third

that's my balance

Bolton are 7 years into a stretch in the third and fourth tiers. These are not good times.

At the end of the day for Bolton to have 7 straight years in the 2nd tier they would have to start paying bigger wages for better footballers.I read some gossip about Bolton offering Ryan Hardie 10k per week.It might have been garbage talk but if Bolton   do start paying those wages for 5 or 6 players they will get out of the 3rd Division.

Ipswich, Wrexham, Birmingham and Wigan have done this in recent seasons although amusingly Wigan couldnt' fund it, went into admin and are now shit.

I'm sure if we can afford it we will but bear in mind what you said about Wigan doing it when they couldn't afford it

or bear in mind what happened to us

Yes Roger and you can add Rotherham, Wednesday and Plymouth to your list. Quality and experience gets you promoted and we haven’t currently got enough of either. When you think how much money we’ve spent on unproven players like Randall, McAtee, Schon and others it makes you weep, especially when some have signed quality players on frees. I’m hoping that this week any players we bring in are older, proven and more experienced and been there and done it before.

People seem to forget that.

There's plenty of Bury fans who wish they were in our position.

Paying wages != success.

It's always been this way at BWFC. Moaning bastards everywhere. Even in some of the incredible ('Amazing') seasons under Jimmy Armfield, Ian Greaves etc., there was a fucking army of them at Burnden - particularly in the Manny Road each side of the tunnel.

The difference then was their collective fucking whining could only be experienced 'live' on match days. Wakey touched on social media. As we all know it gives every knob spanker a soapbox. Better to ignore the negheads. It's not difficult.

Would you have taken todays position if some time travelling tweet had shown you todays league table on the morning of the first match of the season? I know I would.

We are in a great position to kick on now and get out of this division at last. If the excellent support we get at our games could get 100% behind 'em, we'd be up this season for sure and certain.

A few of us oldies remember Neil Whatmore flicking Vs at the Manny Road seats 😂😂. Constant moaning even then can’t imagine a player doing that now.

We certainly do. Even worse was the constant Manny Road haranguing of Roy Greaves who wore no. 9 in his role of midfield enforcer and consequently got relentless stick for 'not playing like a centre forward'. What would we give for a player like that in our team now? He could wear '666' on his back for all I care.

We've always had a bogey-man player. If they move on, so do the fans, to some other poor sod.

I suspect it's the same in other clubs too.

I recall someone near me complaining that "all Worthington does is score goals".

Yes a few over the years ...

Julian Darby used to get lots of stick

Peter Nicholson did

Nicky Hunt did

All three were great wanderers players in my opinion , hard working , 2 were local lads

I used to cheer Julian , I appreciated his commitment and versatility, played makeshift centre half in that fab hull city Friday night game . Class

I remember going away to Crewe, 2001, under Allardyce and losing 2-1. The doom and gloom was similar to here tonight.

Came back on the train with pessimists who laughed at my suggestion that we might be playing Man Utd the season after rather than Crewe.

Aye. "Jaaskeleinen out !!"

Can't see us not making the playoffs. And we've plenty to be optimistic about going in to them.

Need to get over ourselves though and over the disappointment of being so far off second.

Let's get some momentum before it all begins again.

Good lad

Hard to be optimistic after today’s shit show, but it’s football. It’s BWFC. We never do it the easy way

Walsall around the same time wasn't the best either

Yeh I was there.

In today’s on line nonsense Allardyce would have been hounded out.

But I think this was the season before the Crewe defeat.
