Criticism is obviously allowed- but some of the comments on here are frankly pathetic. You can pinpoint at meltdown most weeks; last two Saturdays have yielded 6 points… the amount of FFS and fuck off

A poor Christmas, the Peterborough debacle and an overreaction after Port Vale didn’t warrant SS getting the boot.

Getting 7/9 iffy points and beating Wigan doesn’t mean we’re going up.

Read a lot, but not been posting on here for a while, personal things mainly, but after Northampton I felt my thoughts would have just ended up being inflammatory, as I disagreed with the large majority and I thought some of the drama queens and Uefa A coaches were well wide of the mark.

Then there was Peterborough. What a shit-show that was.

I didn’t know whether I was starting to turn…

I started to agree with some of the negative analysis and comments.

The defence that day was a shambles, keeper worries, same issues not scoring enough, I hated that dragging off of Sheehan and Gale…

But still some overboard shit about Sharon/FV, SS and the players.

That said it was nothing compared to some of the drivel and click-bait extremities I was reading on Twatter/Facemither

It seemed the whole fanbase became embossed in a cloud of negativity where amateurs were being listened to as if they were philosophers or esteemed scholars of the game

SS out posts and polls

Tailspins about what a mess the club is in.

It felt like everybody was trying to outdo each other on what the tactical solution should be.

The transfer thread is/was a case of realism and sense going out of the window.

The screechers reaction v Port Vale was fucking hilarious! 😂 People crying out for change, he makes it in a game we don’t care about and gets a farcical and  disproportionate amount of grief. Maybe they’d have preferred him gambling and experimenting at Wigan, rather than testing it and  utilising it effectively it for that game.

And then those first half comments in the Wigan thread fuck me. What a bunch of surrenderers you negative in-game posters are.

Then the Wigan euphoria - that’s why we do it. Left my son’s hospital bed, so that release was quite emotional. Fucking loved it 👏

Don’t get me wrong I was as frustrated as anyone and really pissed off with that run of games over Christmas/New Year, even more so Peterborough.

After Christmas I still felt we weren’t far away. Relative to the rest of the division, our defence wasn’t an issue then and isn’t now, despite every defender receiving criticism. I couldn’t believe some of the grief not only our standard players were getting, but also our best players this season and of course the manager (almost everybody who was posting thought they knew better than him)*

Some of the criticism and discussion was fair.

But crikey, some of the suggestions for what he should have done, (definitely, definitively, steadfastly, without doubt should have done) the different tactics/formation he should be adopting, who should be playing and where players should be playing, was a case of expert fan overload.

One of the best things posted was that SS was told he had to play attractive (not winning) football in his interview!

He’s Just like Evatt eh, not willing to adapt and change approach/formation 😉

Some posters totally absorbed in their own pontificating- something they excel in when things are going bad - they love it on here when things are going badly. Not so prominent on here when the manager and players are doing ok.

Long way to go though. today was a tough watch, we need to do more to sustain a promotion charge. There will be more bumps in the road, it’s far from perfect. I just hope a bit of a balanced perspective will be applied the next time we play poorly and draw/lose a game or two.

Anyway I’m back to fight the good fight and keep them doom-mongers and UEFA A coaches on their toes 😂

COFFWM 👏👏

Fucking happy clapper :D

PS - hope your lad is ok mate.

We just have to stick with it. I wish we were closer to second place but there are still more than three months of this season go. Transfer dealings over the next few days are critical - and not just here. Could tip the balance one way or the other.

It looked like the wheels were coming off. That has not happened and we battle onward. Hopefully by 2 Feb we have some fresh blood in the squad and we can pick up some real momentum as winter moves in to spring.

We have an uphill task to reach second but promotion is still up for grabs by whatever route.

How dare anyone post anything critical of our team on a FORUM to discuss our team.

Yes it is sometimes over the top, but so is the rhetoric against opinion.

It is an emotional game, and sometimes folk do go over board.

Snide comments are inappropriate either way.

Rudyard was spot on.

Balance my friend, balance. Nowhere above am I happy clapping, saying all was/is rosy, that no criticism is allowed..

Glad you're back and hope all is well, but starting a new thread to write an essay on your self-proclaimed 'balanced perspective'?

It's a bit 'posters absorbed in their own pontificating'.

Don't know if it's social media that does it or we've always been wankers, but there seems a need for instant gratification and no tolerance for anything other than perfection these days. Plus - ironic when we all support the same team and want the same outcome - the tendency to pick sides (he's shit / great, we should play x formation etc) and stick to it regardless of anything that actually happens on the pitch.

Anyway ... good to have you back desperado, hope your lad's ok.

Cheers pal. He’s back home from hospital now and recovering well.

A few other balanced posters like @gonzo, who I’ve been in touch with, who have been sensible and open-minded about our position, batting off the extreme views.

Those loving to dwell in negativity have been in abundance this month.

I think you quite like talking us down, you rarely have much positive to say.

It's the total lack of self awareness in appointing yourself the arbiter of what is a 'balanced' viewpoint which is a bit painful.

Nobody who's read this board for any length of time would consider that you have a balanced opinion. In the last 12 months, you were pitching us as being there or thereabouts under Evatt until the very end, the team nobody wanted to play in the playoffs until we ended up not being in them at all and now it's much of the same in our current situation. It's not balanced because it's the same thing all the time and it's been wrong more than right (sadly) but that's totally fine. You have an opinion and believe in it and it's no better, worse and certainly not more 'balanced' than anyone elses.

I've been on this board for a (frighteningly) long time. It's skewed negative in the last couple of years, but then so have our results vs expectation. Overall I'd be happy enough that none of it is moaning for the sake of it and usually there's a reasonably thought out point in there. Others are free to disagree.

I have noticed a recent trend on wider social media of people wanting wholesale changes every time there's a below-par performance from a player.

It is getting to the point where it's somewhat pathetic. 💣

The difference then was their collective fucking whining could only be experienced 'live' on match days. Wakey touched on social media. As we all know it gives every knob spanker a soapbox. Better to ignore the negheads. It's not difficult.

Would you have taken todays position if some time travelling tweet had shown you todays league table on the morning of the first match of the season? I know I would.

We are in a great position to kick on now and get out of this division at last. If the excellent support we get at our games could get 100% behind 'em, we'd be up this season for sure and certain.

deserves a like for "knob spanker" 😁

I think anyone who is / has been responsible for achieving results will understand that there will be times when things completely out of your control throw spanners in the works. Even more so if you're managing a large group of people to achieve those results (and I'd imagine that's magnified considerably when dealing with sportspeople who need to peak for a relatively short period each week or so).

Folk who haven't think it's a simple as telling folk what to do and they just go and do it.

I suspect there's some correlation there between those who are ultra negative and those who are a bit more tolerant.

That said, Evatt was a total whopper 😁

As you say, a wider reflection of the instant gratification, tik tok-esque, social media, knee jerk society we unfortunately now live in (on the internet, at least)

Too many people seeing life through highlight reels

With some games have to have a bit of context to them.  The Stevenage game we had just run ourselves into the ground at Wigan and played the same team and Stevenage just lumped it anywhere hoping they’d get that second ball so it was a slog fest that we got a point from and still only Cardiff have won there so in horrible conditions fatigue it was a good point.  Move onto yesterday Orient were fresh and it showed we were labouring but managed to keep the back door shut.  SS then changes formation and they had a five min spell to make it 2-1 we then win a corner and get a pen.  Sometimes you have to get results without playing well.  We’ve got four points from tired performances.  I think after Wimbledon game when we get no Tuesday matches we’ll get better performances

Most of the socials have become echo chambers, I've stopped reading and posting as much as tbh I can't be doing with the gloom doom and entitlement of many who seem to think we deserve to be in the Championship due to being a "big club".

Say anything contrary of the mass option and you get abuse, you get snide comments and names slung at you.

It's very easy to get whipped up in ut and I do wonder if the players see it. Easy for people to say "players shouldn't be reading that anyway", but that's exactly what young people do.

Anyway just my 2 peneth as a happy clapper

Ok, I’ll give this response the respect it deserves as there’s elements of truth in it, opinion that offers self-reflection but also some falsities which I’ll challenge.

Like Gonzo said you aren’t one of the screechers or UEFA A coaches. Like many on here I’ll read your opinion with respect and there’s been occasions I’ve agreed with you.

I agree in you pointing out that the large majority of my posts are positive. (But I’ll argue with good reasoning, while considering all reasonable different/negative opinion)

And I think you make a very good point about opinion on here being skewed to the negative because of our failure to translate results into meeting expectation - See I listen, reflect and sometimes acknowledge a different opinion.

Which is why I’ll challenge you on some of your other points.

“Nobody would consider me having a balanced opinion, and I have a total lack of self-awareness” is a bit harsh!

And I’m quite pleased it’s not just me self-proclaiming this!

I’ll listen and respond to others and change my mind accordingly.

The same opinion all the time I’ll challenge too - just not true. I’m not going over my posts and opinion of the last 12 months - but even the leading post on this thread talked about my doubts after Peterborough, agreeing with the negative analysis and claiming some of the criticism and discussion was fair.

And I’m not appointing myself as an arbiter of what should be posted.

Like I said in the original post - I was just simply pointing out, that this month there has, in my opinion, been some overly negative, dramatic opinion and  posts from simple fans, like ourselves who come across as self-proclaimed experts with all the answers - a lack of balance.

That’s an opinion - some will agree, others like you won’t, that’s fine which is why it’s great on here, you can have a decent, respectful debate without the nonsense and abuse you get on other social media platforms.

It's been a growing thing for longer than a month.

Trouble is it affects that dynamics of the group and, as you say who posts, so the previously balance populous views, are weighted into a mire of doom. That them becomes an unattractive read.

Good point pal.

”Weighted into a mire of doom”

I like that one 😂👏

I’ll help redress the balance in a non self-proclaiming, non ego-centric, non-pontificating manner (just so that it doesn’t upset @Tombwfc 😉
