unsung players that folk might have forgotten about or never heard of

Mike Whitlow. Solid, dirty and a true professional. Often doing things in the community on behalf of the club.

Tony Cunningham (1991) played for Bury before coming to us (on loan I think). Only played 9 times but scored 4 goals. Just what we needed at that time. Harder than Abdoulaye Faye and John Fashanu combined.

Tony Kelly. My favourite player of the Rioch years. Pulled all the strings that made the rest of the team sing.

Paul Warhurst.  Never scored for us but a solid player and took no shit on the pitch.

Ray Train (1977/78) Another one who never scored for us. He was a midfielder who played his part in a team that some will remember with great fondness.

But in Givens day he and others looked like keepers. They looked big. All arms and necks and shoulders. Some of the young ones now look like beanpoles. The game has changed though and it works.

Think it was around the same time I saw Michael Ballack up close and thought fuck me he's big

Shout for Darren Pratley.

Never ever understood the stick he got. Came back from injury and save our season.

Did the dirty stuff.

Another one from the Ian Greaves side: Paul Jones and Big Sam are usually remembered as the centre backs but Mike Walsh was consistent and played pretty much as often, sometimes also fitting in at left back. Good un for us over a long period.

Steve Thompson seemed to get a lot of unwarranted stick when he was head and shoulders our best player .........and Jules as they call him at Bolton......never our most gifted but gave everything he had and was another home grown whipping boy.

Roy greaves used to get stick almost 500 appearances and played in every outfield position over time and another local lad and supposedly turned Liverpool down at one point

Good call, our captain in my early days

Was it against arsenal FAC he played on with a split head with bloods oozing through his bandage - Terry Butcher style

I've got the Lady Gaga Paparazzi chant in my head now

Can’t remember the game but I remember the article in the following days BEN.

’Shire’ had missed his bus from, I think it was Hunger Hill, and ran all the way to Burnden to make kick-off. He was man of the match.

League Cup 1971-1972. We beat Man City 1-0. He marked Franny Lee out of the game.  He had been stuck in traffic on the M61. Must have been in someone’s car so he got out and ran to the ground.

Got me thinking and we'd have Jussi and Gardner with 90s, 00s and 10s

That's just reminded me of this - can anyone tell me who was the last player to leave us who also played at Burnden Park?

On a similar note, I was going to say Anthony Barness.

It was a question in the the early 00s. Who is the only member of the current squad to have played in the last game at Burnden?

By that time, the entire Bolton squad from the game had left or retired!
