August 24, 200619 yr One of the worst incidents that I can remember on a football pitch - without being melodramatic that could have killed the guy. Unfortunately that challenge shows the complete stupidity of the fact FIFA won't allow retrospective action when the ref has dealt with an incident on the pitch. Thatcher should be getting a ban of 3, 6, 9 months or longer and yet because the ref mistakenly gave a yellow FIFA rules say that nothing more can happen. Well the FA should say bollocks to FIFA and ban him anyway. There's no place for that in football and if FIFA argue against a ban then they'll make themselves look even more stupid than they alread do.

August 24, 200619 yr Essien's on TBH was bad, but Thatchers was in another world. He's a nasty little red ginger, and not in a good way. To me slamming your elbow into someone's head whilst running at full pealt is a cowards challenge. Getting stuck in and kicking people is fine by me and I love watching a player get stuck in, but doing that is way over the top. If that would have happened on a sunday league game, Thatcher would have been snapped in to! Regardless of the rules, he should be banned for 5 games in my opinion.

Seems stupid then that a player can appeal against a decision given against him when the ref 'has' seen it. Surely something must be done to ban Thatcher for that monsterous challenge?

Had to turn the radio off because I got so frustrated listening to them going on about how that was normal when they played and that Thatcher had done nothing wrong. I'm sure they'd both be happy for their kids to be on the receiving end of a challenge like that. Dicks

Or perhaps the lad should be a cage-fighter or summat, cos it was one hell of a shot. Can't believe at that speed it was 100% what he meant to do. Having defended him, I've just remembered, didn't Thatcher recntly badly injure a Chinese guy in a pre-season friendly?
