PLAYER ratings from Wanderers' win over Liverpool.

 

Jaaskelainen - Terrific saves from Kuyt and Gerrard in first half, had the cigar out in second half 7

 

Hunt - Some wasteful passing early on, but a dogged and disciplined defensive performance after that 8

 

Ben Haim - Playing out of position, he didn't give the normally dangerous Pennant a sniff of an opportunity 8

 

Faye - Unfazed by Kuyt and Bellamy, unflustered by Crouch, and a couple of decisive interceptions 6

 

Meite - As calm as his defensive partner, and one excellent block stopped Bellamy getting Liverpool back into it 6

 

Nolan - Not his greatest game, especially against home-town team, but never stopped working 6

 

Campo - Rolled back the years with a vintage performance, capped by a thumping header to seal the points 8

 

Speed - Marked his 750th club appearance with a cracking goal and a brilliant goal-saving challenge on Pennant 9

 

Anelka - Kept quiet by Hyypia, but he ensured that the Liverpool back four was never able to settle 6

 

Davies - Roughed them up, ran them down, and even popped up in his own area for a vital interception 8

 

Diouf - Would have loved a big, big game against the club that rejected him, but had to make do with his part in great team display 7

I must say that Jussi's 7/10 doesn't do his game today any justice. OK he was quiet for long periods due to his defence's good display but when called into action he looked a class act. I had him as MOM.

I would give every sinlge one of them a 10. Even Nicky Hunt who IMO was a different guy to that of pre-pompey. The defence was once again solid and made two top class forwards seem very average.

Kevin Davies. Brilliant both ends of the field. Tough, uncompromising. No diving, no staying down, no whingeing to the ref.

Apart from a few stray passes he was superb

 

 

However, Campo was slightly better but MoM for me was Davies yet again, the blokes commitment was outstanding, he opitomises the teams spirit

Was todays game Diouff's first against Liverpool? Cant remember him playing against them before.

 

Fantastic result, hopefully we'll steer clear of relegation again this season.

I'd ditto that. We tend to be over critical of our players - but all three were better than anything Liverpool had.

Davies was brilliant again !

 

He runs his bollocks off every game

 

He never gives up, chasing lost causes, tracking back, winning headers, making life hard for defenders, tackling hard but fair and his touch and technique seem to have really come on the last two seasons

 

He doesnt complain when he gets battered round the park, he just gets on with it and gives a bit back

 

Maybe one or two more goals and if he was seen in ritzy boozing and shaggin a few slappers he'd have cult hero status like Super John

and a in a similar fashion Speed....immense today.....he definately has 4 shredded wheat for his breakfast

only a few weeks ago it was all doom and gloom on here and there was talk of sacking sam and moving on, now we are secound in the league and only conseaded 3 goals in all 7 games this season and we are all dreaming of a return to europe next season. it shows that a month in football can change things drasticly.

Anyone who thinks Nicky Hunt is class really needs to find a sport they have some understanding of.

when i say class i mean his attitude to the game just to make that clear. hes a defender and a defender's job is to close down attackers, presurise players into makeing mistakes and stopping shots coming in all thease things hunty did well and gave 100% in everything he did hence my view of him being class yesterday.

hunt was class yesterday apart from one or too dogey passes hope he keeps it up ))

i think our centre backs were worthy of more than run of the mill 6's

Davies was MOM for me, he was everywhere and he's been my MOM for the last 2 games, gets better and better

Faye and Meite deserve 8s at least.

 

My MoM was Davies too, he makes us tick and is always available for a pass.

the fact that Speed and Campo to supposedly 30+ owd farts bossed the midfield ahead of Gerrard and Alonso supposedly 2 of the 2 top midfielders in the world nevermind the country puts them as joint motm for me!

Monday morning, 3rd in the Premiership (only 2 points from the leaders) and we are having to argue who was man of the match as the whole team were fantastic. We took a LIVERPOOL game in our stride, whipping 3 points with a two goal margin. AND... our top signing isn't even on the score sheet yet.

 

Would someone pinch me please and confirm that this is real.

PS. MOTM - Super Kev. He was either making a tackle, marking up, pushing forward, taking on the defenders or just making an absolute nuisance of himself. I'm sure he'd of repaired the pitch at half time if asked !!!!!
