Crawley White Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Has there been any GREAT songs this century? The music of the last 7 years has been fairly dire imo, if you can think of any - then feel free to name the band/ artist and song title, or even better - post a link to a clip of it being performed. Ok - I'll give this a try: Broken Social Scene: Stars: Feist: Quantic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5ggs3dZMro I'm From Barcelona: These are greats in my humble opinion.

Crawley White Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Overall, I'd say this thread has proved Bogs right... Ah, rubbish there is loads of good music out there. But the world would be a dull place if we all liked the same music.
no balls Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Ah, rubbish there is loads of good music out there. But the world would be a dull place if we all liked the same music. Though you must agree, anyone who listens to country music wants gassing.
Crawley White Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Though you must agree, anyone who listens to country music wants gassing. Apart from Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, The Band, The Carter Family, Pete Seeger I suppose you could be right. I'm no fan of the woman singing this but I couldn't get a You Tube of the original by The Carter Family. It's an ok version but this is a great song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlsJVqGVNvE
Burndens Bogs Posted July 17, 2007 Author Posted July 17, 2007 It's an ok version but this is a great song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlsJVqGVNvE If you think that's a GREAT song Crawley gawwd help you And how the fcuk does a dreary ditty written in the 1930's make it a great song OF THIS CENTURY?

Doesn't, just think its a good country song... Doing owt for you....? Or shall I just give up?
no balls Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Doesn't, just think its a good country song... Doing owt for you....? Or shall I just give up? For me, yes please. I love a good sweeping statement, so here it is: ALL country music is shite.
Ani Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 To be a great song it has to stand the test of time. By definition no song of recent years can be classed as great. When punk was out (or do i mean in ?) no one would have said any of that music was great but certain tracks have stood the test of time and must classed as great. 3 or 4 by the pistols new rose by the damned Bands like the Stone Roses have stood the test of time I am the resurection would nt have made any lists of great songs in the day but now sounds even better than it did then as does waterfall. i became my dad at some point during that post.
bolty58 Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 ALL country music is shite. And that is being complimentary. Fooking awful dross.

But the bands you talk about have had 17 - 30 years the leave that lasting impression. Your also talking about movements that capture the zeitgeist. I agree that there hasn't been a youth 'movement' for a while, like baggy, grunge, punk, acid house, even bloody Brit-pop, but that doesn't mean there aren't good songs out there. I became a pretentious gary neville at some point during that post.

Burndens Bogs Posted July 17, 2007 Author Posted July 17, 2007 Tme Of Your Life - Greenday Indeed a great song, but it's from 1997 - not this century.
magic legs Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Dido and James Blunt do not belong in any discussion about great songs. Both gash!
