Newcastle are 80 million in debt according to mike ashleys accountants, and the geordie correspondent said on talk sport that the only reason the smith deal was possible was because dyer was going to west ham and that would fund the transfer, he also said that the dyer deal was now probably not going through making the financial situation at newcastle even worse.

 

 

Looks like Newcastle are in the financial doo doo then if talk sport are correct as the Dyer deal has gone tits up according to SSN and Curbishley.

I can't agree with your point about the board's lack of ambition. Maybe a little on the tight side but not lacking ambition. Last season we were blessed with a gifted high profile player who (fingers crossed) we will have the pleasure of watching this season. And have seen a few in the seasons before.

Remember Newcastle & Leeds. One has decided to think on due to be 40mil in debt and the other'll be lucky if they're still playing at Elland Road come next season.

In case you've not noticed or seen the multitude of wingers appearing, I may be stabbing the dark here but LSL may well show us a different style of play too.

No offence taken, but at the end of each season I hear that we have X amount to spend, and then reality hits and nothing happens. Anelka came after the season had started, and up until that point who had we bought? This season, McGann and Samuel do not exactly inspire and show our boards lack of ambition.

Now, i believe LSL will be great for the club, and will try to play football with the initial idea of going out to win matches, rather than the previous managers idea of going out not to lose matches. I personally need a season away, as I was only turning up to home matches out of habit, rather than looking forward to the match....somtimes you have to stop doing something to realise how much you miss it. Plus i'm still going to all cup matches, and i'll still do my normal trek of some away matches starting at Fulham, as the away match atmosphere is always better.

I was pointing out one aspect of your 'no ambition' comment. Although I wasn't skipping with joy at some of the players coming in to the squad i do realise that every team does have to sign water carriers like McCann to progress.

 

And I think we are all glad at the new playing system that we have adopted but only time will tell if Sammy and this system is right for us.

Every time I hear this "where does all the money go?" question I am amazed. Do you really think that we could spend ?20m on big money signings but choose to keep the money in the bank? It is easy to answer - check the accounts. If you don't have access then here are some facts:

 

About 50%-60% goes on player wages.

Our running costs are higher (in terms of proportion of turnover) than most - due to the hotel, which still makes very little or no profit, and the extensive backroom operation at BWFC.

Our turnover, including the hotel, is low when compared to other clubs, due mainly to lower gate receipts and sponsorship and merchandising income than many of our 'bigger' rivals.

We do pay ?2m-?3m per year on interest on our ?25m debt.

Our operation allows for a small expenditure on transfers each year. Eddie Davies helped us fund Anelka last year, as well as funding the new academy.

Our wage bill is one of the lowest in the Prem and is carefully managed, hence potracted contract negotiations with our players, and no Alan Smith type signings (?6m, ?60k pw on an average player).

 

The board have done a fantastic job keeping the club afloat over the last 10 years. The debt is currently stable and underwritten by Eddie Davies. If there is a reason why you feel like not renewing your ST, then it should not be one connected to the board or the way the club is run. Big money signings cost millions in transfer fees (which we dont have) and millions in wages which if we paid would mean increases in the whole wage strcuture would add millions per year to the costs of the club.

Guthrie, Alonso, Andranik are all recent signings that could be good midfield playmakers / creators...if only one comes good we're better off...we still have Campo, Nolan and Speed in midfield...we've just signed 2 exciting wingers...christ

 

Who EXACTLY did you want us to sign ? Anderson and Nani? Babel and Torres? This is BWFC mate and it probably won't get any better than recent years so if you can't enjoy it now...you're f?cked!!!

Muzzle, the bolton board will spend as much money as the club can afford on players, they are shrewd people, get used to it your a bolton fan.

Most of the players we've signed this closed season are a damn sight younger than allardyce was signing most around the 25yr old mark.

Barring Cid, Samuel,the goalie fella and possibly you could include McCann all our signings are forward thinking players.

2 wingers in Braaten and Wilhelmsson

2/3 ball playing midfielders in Guthrie, Alonso and Dsemali

and 2 Strikers in Helgusson and Harsanyi (OK he was on loan last year)

 

i'd much prefer signing those players than spunking all our cash on 1 or 2 players to to show 'ambition'

I remember us spending money building that thing, and the board promising that it'll make us big money years ago too

 

Yep - the board have maanged the debt well, but it's the hotel, the ill-fated plc adventure & them fcking up selling the old Burnden site that f?cked us up royal for years & years.

 

Saying that - I'm still looking forward tot his season and LSL has made some shrewd signings for little money this summer.......................sooner have that than us paying ?5m for Chopra and ?5.5m for Richardson
