I would imagine that Bayern will beat Aris, so the Braga result would mean nothing.

I'm confident.

agreed...as long as Bayern win the other result doesn't matter.

This is from UEFA Regulations for the group stage;

Criteria for seperating teams finishing on same points total;

a) Superior goal difference from all games played

B) Higher number of goals scored

c) Higher number of goals scored away

d) Higher number of wins

e) Higher number of away wins

f) highest UEFA coefficient points (given we were seeeded second we can only be behind Bayern on this one!)

So someone with more patience than me figure it out and let me know what results we need to happen.

Just checked the last 3 years worth of UEFA cup stats on Wikipedia and only one team has not qualified with 6 points from all those groups and that was Rangers who had won 2 and lost 2 in 2004/05!!!

according to the bbc website Bayern are on +1 didnt they win 3-2 on the opening game. But they have scored more than us , sorry for the table below

UEFA Cup : Group F Table

06 December 2007 21:40

P W D L F A GD PTS

1 Bolton 4 1 3 0 5 4 1 6

2 Aris Salonica 3 1 2 0 5 2 3 5

3 Bayern Munich 3 1 2 0 6 5 1 5

4 Braga 3 0 3 0 3 3 0 3

5 Crvena Zvezda 3 0 0 3 2 7 -5 0

Reet then.

We worked this out last night but the UEFA site has confirmed things.

The worst case scenario can only come about if Bayern and Aris draw, so let us assume this happens so both of those two are through - Aris on a goal difference of +2 and Bayern on scoring more goals than us.

Now the Braga v Red Star game - Braga have to win so what happens by the different score lines assuming they do win:

1-0 Bolton are through on more goals scored

2-0 (and any other win by more than 1 goal) Braga are through on a better goal difference

2-1 Bolton are through on a higher UEFA coefficient ranking

3-2 (and anyother win by a single goal) Braga are through on more goals scored

Sorted then

My money's still on a draw for the Munich/Aris game. I think they'll agree it over a beer or two just because a result would almost certainly put the losing team out.

If Braga win 2-1, we'd go through on more goals scored away from home. Wanderers 3, Braga 2

Fair point that matey, I mis-counted where their goals were scored.

Either way, 2-1 for Braga and we are still through.

Bayern will not want to finish 3rd as they'll play one of the CL teams that finish 3rd in their group with the away leg second (as we were with Marsaille) so I reckon they go all out to win the Aris game.

Thats second place that does that. UEFA group winners will play a UEFA group 3rd place team, 2nd place play a CL reject.

I think.

As I recall Ziggy you are spot on.

2-1 for Braga and we are still through.

Forget about Red Star even scoring a goal, Aris beat them 3-0 at home. Braga will qualify easily. It's all down to the Bayern v Aris game. I predict a carve-up with both teams going through after passing the ball to each other for 90 minutes. Remember Germany v Austria in the 1982 World Cup?

If Bayern can't beat the Greek team at home it is a poor do.

And we can all have a bet on the draw and Braga win double to get some compensation...

George - great double that , will probably pay about 5/1 so like you say, win either way
