Starting 11 With What We've Got So Far ?

No sign of any new players coming in @ the moment , so was just thinking what will be the starting 11 if we just had what we had now . Dunno if there's been a topic like this , if so then sorry like .

Anyway here's mine ... And id play what we've got like this ...

GK - JUSSI

DEF - STEINSSON CAHILL AOB GARDNER

CM - NOLAN MUAMBA

SM - DIOUF TAYLOR JUST PLAYED AHEAD OF THE 2 MIDFIELDERS ON WINGS

SS - DAVIES JUST PLAYED BEHING ELMANDER

S - ELMANDER

It might also be a 4-3-3 with Davies and Diouf either side or Elamander , or a 4-4-2 with Diouf and Taylor on either wing and Davies and Elamander as a front 2 , think we should use 4-4-2 more @ the Reebok against poorer team and use a not so attacking system away from home and maybe against the top 4 or so teams .

No doubt the'll be more signings , but looking at that i dont think many players will be dropped .

I think that Elmander will play a little bit deeper and Davies will be the focal point.

My team at the moment would be:

(4-3-3/4-5-1)

.................Jussi

Steinsson...Cahill...A O'Brien...Gardner

...............Muamba

.................Nolan

Diouf......Elmander........Taylor

................Davies

Muaba holding and Nolan bombing on from midfield. Diouf and Taylor will be on the wing and we will go 4-3-3 when on the attack and then they will sit back when defending. When attacking i can see overlap with our 2 full backs which will be good to seee. Elmander will play a bit deeper behind Davies and he will bring other players in to play. He will feed on Davies' knock downs and supply passes for Diouf, Nolan and Taylor when we are attacking. Elmander also has a fair amount of pace and a good work ethic so he will also be able to run around and help the team when defending.

I think that has the makings of a good team with good options in defence and in attack. I think there might be a good amount of wing play as Diouf, Taylor, Steinsson and Gardner all like to get forward and supply crosses which will work well for Davies and Elmander.

Muamba is supposed to be very athletic, can tackle and has a good engine so he will be the one who will be in charge of breaking up the opposition attacks.

As for Nolan's role in this team, i can see him playing very central and playing in fornt of Muamba and just behind Elmander and will go forward when needs be but he will be central to the whole team which is a good position for a captain and leader to be. It would be good if Nolan was a bit better at passing and orchestrating something in the middle of the pitch but he's not too bad.

For me our Starting 11 seems to have a good amount of balance and ability it is just our options on the bench. Hopefully with players like Cisse, Mustapha Riga, Harper and Goian all linked thi will mean that we can have good replacements and also the option to change style and systems. We don't need as big a squad as last season as we aren't in Euope. 2 or 3 quality purchases/loans will see us do well this season

Dont think Nolan will be bombing anywhere, I think he will suit the sitting role now his mobility aint what it was 5 years ago.

I keep telling you it's a 4-1-2-1-2 formation this season.

Andy Townsend's Tactics Truck is alive and well it seems.

Gota be two up front, Taylor and Dioufy (if he's still here) getting to the byline and swinging the ball in and Steinsson and Ricky overlapping. Would love that, actually use the midfield to get forward instead of expecting Davies to win it and "gain us territory". You never know big Kev might even score a few (I'm sure Elmander will).

Mego will keep it simple with the emphasis on attacking football. YHIHF.

Can't see Diouff being a "hole" player meself, he'll either be playing in Katangaland, or he'll be playing out wide for us.

I heard he liked it in the hole.

No one think Samuel deserves a shout after his end of season performances?

One of the main reasons we stayed up along with McCann IMO.

any reason our ?11m striker is opn the bench?

oh and feck knows why i put diouf in instead of taylor!

Jussi will be 1st choice this season.

Mark my words/read the contract clause.

4 4 2 looks good on paper, but we all know that doesn't always mean it will work on the pitch.

I would try this 4 4 2:

Al Habsi

Steinsson Cahill AOB Samuel

Diouf Nolan Muamba Taylor

Davies Elmander

If that didn't work then I'd go back to the tried and tested 4 3 3/4 5 1:

Al Habsi

Steinsson Cahill AOB Samuel

Nolan Muamba Taylor

Davies Elmander Diouf

This team is interesting as it doesn't so much illustrate a lack of strength in depth, but also a lack of any depth :)... This team looks like it would get knocked out of first round of League Cup no matter who they played ;) ... so with current squad I'd say a cup-run is completely out of the question!

Also it's interesting that many of us fans probably rate J.OB as not even good enough to get in our second eleven, whereas I have a nasty feeling he will make Gary Megson's first eleven on quite a few occasions!

Finally how many of the team Traf picked above do you think we will have moved on come the end of January 2009... about 5 I'd say

I disagree about my stiffs eleven showing a lack of depth.

Walker, Hunt, Meite, Samuel, McCann, Helguson and Vaz T? have lots of first team top-flight experience.

All 11 of them have represented their country at U-21 or higher.

My mistake we have real strength in depth yes and nothing to worry about there.

I don't half talk rubbish sometimes!

EDIT:

PS the fact that all the best starting XI's picked by fans on this thread are almost identical [ an none of your stiff's are picked by anyone as good enough for first team ] doesn't prove we only have 11 decent players either. It's just a conicidence ;)

McCann is in my 1st 11 and HR has both Samuel and McCann in there.

IMO players like Hunt, Samuel, Cohen (I know i'm the only one who seems to like him) and Helgusson are very adequate back up player for the odd suspension or short term injury however what we do lack is decent competition for places in the starting 11 baring GK
