Not the ones that seem to have got the hang of the fact some of us half a brain and aren't all really interested in having babies or ironing.

You having a go at the Catholics now. I'm sickened.....

some shite written on this thread.

does anyone actually know any muslim women.

women are not regarded any less than men in Islam.

they just have a different way of doing things,e.g separate praying, covering faces, etc

there are extremists in all faiths, and these are the fuckers we should be worrying about.

My view is that it is very hard to be 100% non-racist. None of us are perfect, we all have our own mental and emotional insecurities, and we are all fed lots of information from a very young age from an at times irresponsible media, from teachers, parents (many of whom had been influenced by people who had witnessed shocking brutality at the hands of "foreigners") and peers who may have their own views that are biased against one group or another.

In my lifetime, and I suspect the lifetime of many on here, there have been many messages from numerous sources that encourage us to discriminate against practically everydody. Some of the strongest messages have been against Black people and Asian people, but also Chinese people, gay people, fat people, women, old people, French, Italians, Jews, Muslims, Germans, Scots, Irish.....I could go on.

Thus when we get to the age when we set off on our own path we have been fed so much potential to discriminate that no matter how well balanced and intelligent an individual is, some unfair thoughts towards certain groups are bound to exist, and some people will always overcome them better than others. Surely all one can do is to show respect to other people in general?

Watching Mr Obama on Tuesday, and to understand the constant bombardment of discussions about race since, it is important to understand quite how racist the US has been over the last 300 years, and the pyschological effect that has had on African Americans and how that effects them to this day, and how other countries of the world have to some degree or other copied the model. Once you appreciate that then electing a black guy (or mixed race to be precise) to the most powerful political position in the world with an African American wife and family, so unexpectedly quickly, is an amazing development, and a great and liberating one for African Americans in particular.

So in short YES :D

With the greatest respect, Frank, that is utter pissfroth! The fact that I am learned enough & pretty well read, I understand their attitude towards wimmin is because of their beliefs, & that makes me not respect their belief. If a religion/culture feels a need to put wimmin in their place, the culture that finds that acceptable, needs to ask itself, why? And I'm not just talking about Islam here!

Cue, the barrage of ironing comments! :pardon:

Very well put that NB, the belief that certain people have does in fact lead to them having a poor attitude to women, although that is only down to their own interpretation of their "readings" (I'm talking about Islam here) - I have never read it, but I am not overly sure that the Quoran makes a point of suggesting that women should be covered from head to foot, and should be second class citizens............

Anyway, shouldn't you be doing a spot of ironing or beating some mats? :p

Living in and around Burnley I through my wife know many and I can catagorically state that Muslim women are treated as second class citizens by their men because of their beliefs. They are "forced" to do these different things because of the interpretation of the quoran by the males in their community. woe be tide them If they resist.

He's right, you know.

Fair play to them then.

Is the quoran made by the manufacturers of quorn ?

With the greatest respect, you are not a woman who has travelled to Islamic Countries, I am. I would hope you defer to my greater knowledge of their ignorance.

Fair play to them then.

Yes, it's a Bible substitute.

History was made in America last night as Barrack Obama broke a long tradition and became the first blackman to enter The Whitehouse without a mop and bucket !!

The Daily mail's headline after Obama's victory:

BLACK IMMIGRANT DENIES WHITE WAR VETERAN HIS RIGHTFUL HOME

It's them and us Frank.

Pick a side, there's a good chap.

Joking aside i fear that is probably what it will boil down to in this country.

Skin colour means absolutely jack shit to me, there are good and bad in all colours and creeds.

What does worry me however,is the growing influence Islam is having on our society - I am concerned for my daughters future here, she is 5 and it frightens me what life will be like in England in say.....25 years. If that concern makes me a racist, then the original meaning of the word must have changed somewhat.

I do worry about the way the social(ist) engineers have been able to demonise that word and have folk 'not comfortable with it'. In my view, it is completely and utterly over used - in most cases in the wrong context.

Throughout history, tribal differences, religious bigotry, even football rivalries have produced wars, battles and general uproar. In my experience, some of the biggest racists are the people which, I suspect, floyd would be eager to 'defend'. Tutsi and Hutu anyone?

As usual, the most sensible comment on this thread seems to have come from Smiffs. Other races ain't any less human and bleed the same red as we do. Judging a bloke on the colour of his skin is a sign of ignorance. Judging him on his beliefs and actions isn't.

Nope.

Funny that J. I had similar concerns 20 years ago. Moved to Oz for the kids sake.

Gary Glitter emigrated for the kids too.

Noooooo, its about Hugh Quoran who used to play for us :pardon:

Gag of the week that

Dunno maybe you know Muslims from Lebanon Bangladesh, Egypt or turkey then? In Burnley, Blackburn, Nelson and Colne they are nearly all P?kist?ni in origin, wear headscarves or mostly Burkas, are given no choice of whom they marry or at what age and struggle with the english language.

To actually argue that muslim women (or women who travel to muslim countries) are not oppressed is naivety in the extreme.

Even wife beating is being overlooked as the pc liberal left turn a blind eye in these areas. The rights of these women have been further diluted with the agreement of the labour government to allow some facits of sharia law to be used by these communitys in england, divorce and relationship issues (wife beating) being one of them.

i can only go off what i am told by friends, and what i see of friends who are muslim, both male and female.

This link is to a report of a 13 year old girl, stoned to death for committing the offence of "getting" raped.

Visit My Website

So we've got 3 extremists who raped her, let's say 6 or so extremist "law men" who decided her fate, 50 extremists who took part in the stoning, and 1,000 extremist spectators.

Islam is an extremist religion.......the moderates are the exception, not the rule.
