February 24, 200917 yr If I were a Villa or Spurs fan I'd be p1ssed off with seeing a weakened team in the knock out stages. Granted Spurs have a cup final on Sunday but once they've lost that their season will be over with no chance of Europe next year. Villa could break the top 4 but if you cant compete in the prem and Europe then whats the point? We would never have gone all the way plus looked doomed in the league so for me Lisbon is forgiven.
February 24, 200917 yr thinking about it, best away performance and it was only half a game, marseille
February 24, 200917 yr I'll be interested in Blackburn's result this weekend having seen their starting line up tonight.
February 24, 200917 yr Zenit at home, Plodiv away, Marsaille away (even though we lost) Besiktas away bwfcdan strikes again. How old are you pal?
February 25, 200917 yr We got outplayed in all of those games even Plovdiv we just about scraped it at the end! Disagree. Thought after first 15 minutes & going 0-1 down, we played well at Besiktas. First-half at Marseilles was good too. Goal just before break killed us.

February 26, 200917 yr be interesting what the media say...... harry was on radio today joking about it, the cheeky chappy.
February 26, 200917 yr be interesting what the media say...... harry was on radio today joking about it, the cheeky chappy. I predict more than a few twitches during his post match interview. edit: I thought I'd add I meant facial ones, just to clarify. Edited February 26, 200917 yr by no balls
February 27, 200917 yr Not a bad word said in the Sun about either Villa or Spurs effectively throwing their games. Absolute joke. Full of positives sh!t like giving the upcoming stars valuable experience. Players suffering from tiredness is the biggest myth in the modern game. A good example wil hopefully be Hull beating a 'fresh' Blackburn side on Sunday and FSA trying to defend his weakened midweek team, 'erm...the players were tired from the coach journey to watch the game in cov, we need a mid season break'.
February 27, 200917 yr Not a bad word said in the Sun about either Villa or Spurs effectively throwing their games. Absolute joke. . Then try reading the daily mirror then: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...15875-21156559/ http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...15875-21156560/
February 27, 200917 yr For all the bollocks about, that wasn't a particularly inexperienced team that Spurs put out. Not the first XI I grant you, but not the team of kids I was expecting. Great to see that Shaktar's late equaliser means that Bale still hasn't appeared in a winning Spurs team yet. Isn't that about 30 games now?
February 27, 200917 yr I have come to the conclusion that football at the elite level is not a sport anymore. It is a product of a business, who's only real interest is money. Clubs like Bolton and Villa basically forfeitting games, to arguably give them a better chance in the league is not sport. And if Villa had gone to Moscow last night and stuffed them, would they not be raring to go again at weekend? I can't forgive for last season in Lisbon. I hope Villa fans are as p1ssed off as I was. But I am now understanding that this is the future of our national game. Tangiable rewards for fans and players means winning trophies and medals. Tangiable rewards for the clubs means money. Before the start of last season, Gartside told us that the uefa cup was not financially rewarding. I wonder why we ever entered it and I imagine a few ropey Villa fans are this morning. It's just not sport.
February 27, 200917 yr Manc was buzzing with Per Frandsens yesterday - they looked like they were having a great time! ahh the memories... just hope city get beat next round, cant have them getting further than we did! they didnt even qualify properly - fucksticks!

February 27, 200917 yr This is how The Daily Mash reported it. ASTON Villa boss Martin O'Neill last night defended fielding a 69 year-old tea lady in central defence after his side were dumped out of the Uefa cup. Margaret Gerving, who has been serving delicious refreshments at Villa Park since 1983, said she enjoyed her first outing and that her acrylic hip joints had performed surprisingly well. The grandmother of eight said: "I'm more of an attacking midfielder but I'm happy to play wherever the boss needs me. I just hope my series of severe angina attacks whenever the ref blew his whistle did not distract the other lads too much." Mrs Gerving added: "This is my grandson Stuart. He's studying mechanical engineering at Warwick. I don't like his girlfriend though. Very full of herself." O'Neill opted for an experimental 4-1-0 line up against CSKA Moscow, including Mrs Gerving, two year-old Spiderman enthusiast Kyle Stephenson, the late Danny Blanchflower, and an atom of hydrogen at right-back. He said: "I wanted Margaret to put her foot on the ball, calm things down and build from the back. I did not expect her to bring a folding chair, a walkman and the audio book of Passion's Promise by Danielle Steel. "It was probably for the best when the big lad knocked her over and ruptured her colostomy bag." With Villa fourth in the Premier League, O'Neill said he wanted to rest key players in their push for the title. But Man Utd manager Alex Ferguson described the tactic as 'pissing a fire door shut', adding: "Title-contenders my furious, purple arse."
February 27, 200917 yr Well I guess it depends on your perspective. From a clubs point of view there is vastly more money staying in the Premiership (in the case of us and Spurs) or getting into the Champions league (for Villa) than there is in actually winning the UEFA Cup (let alone simply progressing into the next round. Many fans accept this logic - however there are quite a few who believe that a moment of 'glory' in winning a 'European' trophy (or the FA, or League Cups) to be worth a catastrophic loss of income to the club if they were to be relegated. It is a no brainer for the clubs really - they will always put out a weaker cup side if there are bigger issues at stake - such as staying in the Premiership. Some fans simply cannot accept this - although nearly every club does it and have been doing it for a number of years.
February 28, 200917 yr Like many I was disgusted when our day in the sun was probably prematurely ended by a duff team selection for UEFA in favour of the league. That was of course a completely selfish personal view and not really giving a flying shiite about our premiership survival (although it could be argued that a cup run may have given the team and all-important confidence boost in the league). What Villa has done in my eyes is far worse. They are on course to secure at least a UEFA spot next year, but chose to field a weakened squad taking part in the cup that they will more than likely end up in next year. It's non-sensical. I know there's more money in the chumps league, but it shows an absolute lack of respect for their travelling support and I hope O'neil gets slated by the Villa fans for it.

February 28, 200917 yr IF Meggo had any sense, he'd never mention this ever again. He's never going to convince people he was right, no matter how times he repeats it.
February 28, 200917 yr The Megson swingometer has just took a sharp turn in the wrong direction! Not going to bang on about it or join the mongngalong Mugson clan, but the lad has got to remember how much we spent getting out over there so i agree with Carlos he really isnt to try justify what he did (right or wrong) im afriad in my opinion he will have this black spot on his Bolton C.V for life .
February 28, 200917 yr Author IF Meggo had any sense, he'd never mention this ever again. He's never going to convince people he was right, no matter how times he repeats it. i'd guess he responded to a direct question from a journo about Lisbon after Harry and MON did exactly the same thing. Refusing to answer the question does him no favours either. Sometimes his open approach can leave him open to critisism but i'd rather that that than wishy washy PR speak.

I know what you mean but the guy has had to apologise for comments he's made before He really ought to think about what people hold against him and if he can't make it better, try to avoid the subject at least But he seems to be incapable of doing that, he HAS to have his little say, he HAS to tell the world why he is right Very silly
