Davies For England . . .

Lad has to do a presentation on a subject of his choice. He's chosen "Kevin Davies for England? Yes or no?"

There are two ways to do this:

Go off and interview lots of folk in the hope of finding only those with an opinion either way.

or

Ask on here; knowing that any respondents WILL have an opinion.

So go on, should Kevin Davies have been given a chance with the England team by now?

Your help is appreciated . . . not by me, obviously, I couldn't give a fck whether he's in or out as long as he stays fit. My lad, however, will be most apreciative.

Why not. Give skd a chance. Better than heskey and others imo

Yes he should as Im fed up of us playing darkies up front.

no not good enough in my opinion, stands well down the list of candidates, and while i love him at bolton england is one step to far for him, just my opinion

True, allthough I love Davies I dont think hes good enough for England but I do think he deserves his one chance

With a few good midfielders around him YES, someone he can lay off to YES. First hour of an important match YES, after that circulate the fingers on the touchline and get a clynical finisher on :good:

Kevin Davies for England? Yes or no?

that's a piece of pss that

the answer is quite clearly no

if he needs to showing working out, just submit the last 10 or so england squads

just make sure he doesn't say yes, as he'll probably get an F

Some people know absolutely nothing about football

Definitely Kev Davies should be in the England squad. He is one of the most underrated players in the Premier League over the last 5 or 6 seasons. He is one of my favourite players that I have seen play for BWFC, and I have been going for a while now.

We would never have had a European Tour without him, he contributed as much, if not more than any other Bolton player IMO in the seasons that we qualified for Uefa Cup.

When Sven took the England squad to Germany it was a travesty that Davies wasn't there when you look at who was included. Owen was a waste of space and not match fit after long absence through injury (favouritism and sponsorship pressures, money talks), Rooney had a broken toe(still was 1st choice and worth the gamble, had to go), Peter Crouch(average international player, arguably not as good as Davies anyway but age on his side, had to go because of England goals against weak oppo), and Walcott (17yrs old and never played a Premier league game in his life).

The main reason for Davies's absence is because he doesn't play for one of the more glamorous clubs. His goalscoring record shouldn't be taken at face value because he has played in wider and more defensive positions for much of the time, and his work rate and contribution to the goals is immense.

Conclusion: YES :good:

For Micky's son I will try and do a reasoned reply rather than a yes / no answer.

Many people make the mistake in thinking that the best eleven players in each of the respective footballing positions will make the best team, in fact it is how the players fit together that makes a team as opposed to a team of eleven individuals.

Take for instance Gerrard and Lampard - both outstanding players for their respective teams BUT playing them together in the England side simply does not work.

The England manager therefore as to design a system first then pick the players that will work well in that system.

There is a word called 'Synergy', which means the total is greater than the sum of its parts - so England (or any team) is looking for a team of players that work well together and thus achieve more than what they are capable as just individuals.

Now Fabio Capello, the current England manager, as been playing a system whereby a big target man is required - he as picked Heskey and more recently Crouch to fill that role.

Now few would realistically argue that Kevin Davies is among the first rank of English strikers BUT in the role of a target man he has few peers in my opinion. So despite him now being 31 years old, if Capello continues to play the system that he has been doing then I can see a strong arguement for Davies winning his first cap.

Possibly the things that will count against this happening is if Capello changes the system away from one that suits Davies style; A reluctance to pick a 31 year old who will be another year older by the time of the summer 2010 World Cup in the neat of South Africa; Elmander and not Davies playing the target man role for Bolton for much of the season (Capello may not have seen first hand how truly affective Davies is in this role).

I personally would pick Davies for England if Capello continues to play to a style that would suit him.

Hope this is of some help to your son's assignment.

Edit - great reply Zozzy.

i know, terrible isn't it

i'd probably draw a picture of big kev as well because if he goes with sluffy's answer they're bound to suspect plagirism

or at least spelt synergy wrong

I agree with Zozzy. Attended all of Englands games in Germany 06 and am 100% convinced that with Davies leading the line, we would have got further than we did.

I dont know if that counts as a bite ::lol::

Yes he should as Im fed up of us playing darkies up front.

cant belive you have said that or got away with it even! :nea:

Remember Ricketts?

If England play the style they have of late ie Heskey then yes Kev deserves his chance.

I can't believe that useless piece of shit (Crouch) gets in the squad and SKD doesn't, he's a damn sight better than that long useless tw4t and can do as good a job as Heskey

In other words "yes" he should be given a chance :good:

perhaps a comparison could be done to a previous Bolton England debutant eg Ricketts...........

A Bolton quality player gets a call and this then pretty much ruined his career! and from a Bolton perspective this is not what we want from Kevin Davies.

Everyone wants SKD to get a call up because he has been quality this season and it will again put 'little old Bolton Wanderers' on the map. However I am probably with the minority by seeing what negative effect this could have for Bolton.

Same to be said with Taylor and Cahill in my opinion.

They should ask the England defenders which English strikers they fear the most and pick them. Then ask those strikers which defenders they fear most and pick them.

In hindsight that also seems to be how I chose my wife.

Remember Ricketts?

If England play the style they have of late ie Heskey then yes Kev deserves his chance.

thus proving Garrps point! :pardon:

He should have got a call up, just to prove how crap he is on the bigger stage, and prove how stupid most of you are.

no good enough imo.

but probably deserved a chance on merit.

I can't believe that useless piece of shit (Crouch) gets in the squad and SKD doesn't, he's a damn sight better than that long useless tw4t and can do as good a job as Heskey

That should be the opening line in the lads presentation :good:

reckon that's more a summary miself - begin with "In conclusion..."

but aye, should def be used

My personal opinion is that he isn't good enough to represent England. Many people aruge that he is better than Crouch or Heskey, but that isn't a real argument as far as I am concerned, because I don't think they are good enough either. I believe that England have a shortage of quality strikers at the minute, and I don't see that changing in the near future when all that appears to be coming though are the likes of Agbonlahor and Walcott (who it could be argued isn't a "striker") - that all said, if Capello is picking a squad based purely on current form, then Davies should be included in the squad, the manager could then decide, when he sees him training with quality players, how good he really is. Whilst Davies looks good playing in a very average Bolton squad, how good would he look if surrounded by the likes of Gerrard, Rooney, Ferdinand etc?

In conclusion although SKD is not a player of obvious international quality he is one of very few English centre forwards to consistantly perform in the Premier League. On that basis he is well worth at least a place in the England squad.

The argument that you have to be of a certain standard to be in the squad is in fact flawed, you could be a world class player but be unfortunate to be born in a country that has even better players. To be in the squad you have be at any given in the top 4 or 5 qualified players in your position, it is hard to argue that at no stage has KD fulfilled this criteria therefore he should have been given a chance. KD should benefit ftom the lack of other english centre forwards and at least make an appearance in the squad.
