Recommended Posts

When I switched on my laptop yesterday all that came up on start up was a blue screen. Then after about 5 mins an error warning appeared. It said summat like "error 999....blah blah blah". I can't remember exactly.

Reet, does anybody know a simple cure?

Or,

Can anyone recommend someone off here who can fix it?

TIA

I'm not sure whether you're taking the piss or being serious.

If it's the latter, I don't understand how I can do that if the screen is completely blue.

Does it look something like this

If so this is where you are told always make sure you back your stuff up.

It normally means wiping and starting again. If your nephew cannot save your personal stuff let me know, I can get your pics etc before your hard drive is wiped.

I've that probelm on one of the laptops at home.

Also it doesn't shut down?

You have to take the battery out everytime you want to turn it off.

Should I take an hammer to it?

I've only ever had it once personally, I looked into how to fix it and decided it was much much simpler to back up my HDD and start again.

I know of 2 other mates who had the same thing and decided on the same solution.

If a IT tech looked at it, fair fucks they would probably fix it, I'm not an IT tech though and for what one would cost and how long they would have the pc, would it be worth ut?

Baz, Ziggy knows his stuff: trust me.

He brought my PC back from the dead a few years ago, with all the pics of my baby on it.

Top man.

Aye, read enough of Ziggy's posts on this bit to know he knows what he's talking about. (infact I'm pretty sure he has helped me in the past)

Its just a nephew who knows a bit about pc's may well choose the start from scratch route, in which case I can back up Jeeps stuff if her needs it.

When mine fooked up it was recoverable but to someone unsure it seemed a whole lot more complicated than backing up and restarting. If you know what your doing though it may well not be that complicated at all.

Ryan, fuck off! This is my post. :D

The screen is a similar shade of blue but with no writing on.

My friend's nephew is supposed to be shit-hot on stuff like this so hopefully he'll sort it.

If he doesn't I'll tell him that his uncle is a nonce..........

Update:

Got it back last neet.

He had to re-install a lot of the stuff such as Vista, Office, etc.

But he managed to save all my files & docs which was nice.

He's got it running like a dream now.

If anyone wants his number let me know.

I think he's Atherton/Tyldesley based.

You mean he put the OS disk in and did a repair ;)

Did I?

I haven't got a clue when it comes to the nitty gritty of 'puters.

Out of interest how much would it cost to have this repair, and fix done at a main road pc repair centre?

Given your initial post which so eloquently displayed the fact that you hadn't a clue, probably about 60 quid - unless you took it to that sports car driver near Asda on Astley bridge, where a second mortgage could well have been required
