Postponed Away Games That You Went Too.

Seeing them Wanderers fans down at Arsenal reminded me of my postponed away games that amazingly enough turned in to megga drinking sessions.

Halifax int FA Cup was a classic piss up, Crewe was another :drinks:

Late 70's due to the fog? Me too.

The game abandoned at half time in the snow was Everton over the Christmas period, the game were George Woods did Peter Reids knee injury I think?

New Year's day 1979 I think. More snow fell that day than we had yesterday. It started snowing at about 11am. The only reason it started was because there was such a big crowd.

Tranmere

:aggressive: :vava:

Ok it was home but i remember Burnley at home being abandoned because of fog, freight rover i think, anyone eles there that night?

How severe was the fog if you couldn't tell if anyone was there ?

I seem to remember one at Orient - late 80's?

I was on the coaches and went into the King Bill once they got back to Burnden

Or am I going mad?

Port Vale (I think), wed paid for the coach so went to chorley for the afternoon, a damper fan of ours went in a batman cape and g-string, it was freezing. Stockport ive got there and it was called off, ive been quite lucky really :good:

seem to remember a load of swindon fans staying in the havelock and getting p?ssed when snow stopped the first leg of the coca cola cup semi final

or did i dream that?

Crewe was on Grand National day, seem to remember most of the Bolton fans in a pub near the ground watching it then buggering off home when it was over.

Leyton Orient. Ended up on the pss around London with a load of Hammers fans, including one from Workington (FFS!).

Set off for this one. I'd have been 16 or 17 so guessing 78/79. Heard on the radio that it was off so our car full went to Oldham instead. can't recall who the away team was but we decided to shout for them. It didn't appear to go down too well with the locals! :pardon:

I once came up from Caerphilly on a Cardiff City supporters club coach to be told the game was off on arrival at Burnden. Miserable bastard coach driver turned straight round and took us back.

Anfield was another cancellation when I'd come up with the LFC supporters club from Bristol. This was a late cancellation and the driver didn't find us until after 3 so at least we'd had a wet before going home.

port vale away, tranmere away, crewe away in the league

luton away and spurs away in the cup

wigan at home abandoned at half time in the league

Preston :vava: Can't recall why it was off but it got a bit nasty outside station.

I was at that one, called off at midday but we had been in Preston since 9.30 ish, as usual just became a p*ss up round the town centre

remember a home game friendly v stoke being arranged about 75 - cup 4th round day, maybe?

got called off about 2.45

i was looking forward to seeing gordon banks

Remember this friendly was Called off because of fog. I was looking forward to seeing Banks to.

Was in the burnden paddock for that match. We scored at the Lever End and no one around us knew until a roar went up and the players potterd back to the centre circle.

Hereford 1976. We ended up in the pub for 2 hours drinking our first scrumpy as 16 year olds. The Ribble coach on the way back ran with rivers of piss.

Ribble Rable! Ribble Rable! Oi! Oi! Oi!

Always went with Ribble Travel back then until one away match down at Orient the driver refused to let a lad on the coach. Poor kid was only about 14 or 15 and had to make his own way home. Can't remember why he wouldn't let him on? however all the way back home the rest of the coach just sang the usual "the driver is a twat" . Decided to make alternative travel arrangements after that.

Oh yea just remembered also away at Oldham one boxing day Fucking ribble didn't come and pick us up after the match. Managed to get a bus back home.

Crewe for me, Stockport FA Cup tie as well, was then played midweek, Ricketts scored and they were perhaps one of the worst teams I've ever seen

A different category:

Games you missed because of london traffic?

Chelsea away for me

Hereford twice in a week. The Saturday in Hereford was a laugh , but the novelty wore of second time.

hereford was really good day out, they had a blackboard on carpark saying match off ,2 coaches escorted out all way back bolton happy days :drinks:

Orient early 90s..went down on midnight train & hit Borough Market for an early mornin drink.....pissed down all day

That Oldham game what was postponed was a bit tasty, caught the Trans Lancs from Moor Lane and hit Oldham early, mobs of lads kicking off in the town. Walked to a pub on Rochdale Rd packed with Wanderers. Police eventually told us to get back to Bolton.

You aint going mad, i remember that one. A minibus full went down from Prince Rupert. It rained, snowed, thundered n lightening on way down there. Think they called it off on the last minute.

Just remember this fat fooka with a fat cigar n a big brandy laughing at us when he was telling us the game was off.

We got lost trying to get out of London as well, just to top the day off
