All the best to Cahill for his health. That's his priority.

As for BWFC, we've got major defence problems this season with or without GC. I'm more worried about creativity and goal scoring. We can escape, but I wouldn't put money on it. Unless 3-4 major players start to perform, we'll be sunk ..... SKD, Elmander, Taylor and ANO.

We've still got 2 centre halves for cover. AOB had a good game on Sat before he went down and Shittu's got a point to prove. His goals aside - Cahill hasn't been this Maldini style defensive demigod he's often made out to be this season. Not saying we won't miss him, but let's not go overboard and start panicking.

Provided they stay fit and their form is ok - the options we have will be fine.

BTW - did anyone else think Ricketts looked more comfortable at Centre Half than right back on Sat?

I wasn't too worried - I am now. Every time Kent makes a prediction, the opposite happens.

This is an absolute shitter. Nothing against Danny Shittu but he isnt good enough for the prem. This is defiantly another nail to add to the coffin. But miracles do happen!! COYW!!

Coffin? Miracle? Christ man - there's half a season left to play yet!

I'm annoyed we've lost Cahill - but he isn't the be all and end all.

Remember Megson's first season when we looked dead and buried and then Jussi got injured? Worst timing in the world - argueably our best player. Al Habsi came in and played an absolute blinder. Out of his skin!

If we go down, it won't be because Cahill is injured or Davies' goal got disallowed or Klasnic is missing - it'll be because the rest of the squad didn't stand up to be counted when we were counting on them. I think they will.

Between now and the end of the season, there will be some unlikely heros at the Reebok. Have faith and watch this space!

I have the faith, dont worry about that. We can stay up, but not unless the team gets the finger out of there arse!

not a single clean sheet all season, OC manages to get 2 in his 1st 4 games or so. 1 of which was without cahill.

im more worries about him being our leading scorer.

Often when the star man goes missing, the rest play better.

The 2008 Ryder Cup. The USA trounced us without Tiger Woods. After 3 defeats with him on the team.

If they stand up to be counted, it may well compensate

The injury isn't going to keep him out. The blood thinning medication is what will keep him out. If you get even a small cut when you're on that stuff then your blood doesn't clot and create a scab, so you will just bleed and bleed. Obviously, doing a physical sport like football is a MAJOR risk in that situation.

On a side note...

I think Big Dan will be adequate cover, I've never really seen him put much of a foot wrong when he's been given a chance. Sure, he's not quick... but he'll stop everything in the air (which other than Arsenal, that's what most teams play anyways). I also think OC has the option of recalling Nicky Hunt for cover, he's played centre back before - and if memory serves he isn't too shabby in that position.

Not been watching the same games that I have seen Shittu play; he is our only choice without playing a full back there like saturday. Not good but whoever gets the nod we have got to back them as much as possible.

Livid over those two robbed points now - Never liked that Clattenberg but if we go down then it will be hatred

Forget Taylor the guy is useless and has been all season - we have players to fill his boots though

I've been a supporter of Shittu but the thought of him alongside Knight scares me.

This uplift in Knight's form surely can't continue, maybe it can but realistically the Knight that we know and hate has to return soon and I predict that will be sooner rather than later with Shittu alongside.

If AOB is not fit for tomorrow, I'll go with Ricketts or Steinson (if fit) for pace in the centre of defence.

how tall in steinsson?

i wonder if basham can play there?

Tell you something as well, if Megson was still here - he would be getting more than a fair share of blame for this due to his failure to sign a centre back in January.

Its been near the top of our list of priorities all season but Coyle took a gamble that the uplift in Knight's form is permanent and we'll get no injuries.

We've known all along that AOB and Shittu are no longer up to playing Premiership football week-in-week-out and now here we are, faced with that exact situation in a relegation scrap.

Its amazing how the rose-tinted glasses that we see Owen Coyle through, stops us throwing the same mud that would have been heading Megson's way by now!

Can somebody give TonyCee a nudge please.

We could do with his input to cheer this thread up FFS.

basham is allegedly a defender..

I think Knight will be living upto his 4m tag!!, hes played great under coyle, and his poor form could be attributed to his own goals..

Coyle will have faith in whichever option he turns to, otherwise he would have wanted another defender in the transfer window..

Some positive injury news....McCann out for 2 months!

Stein will be back on the right soon and Ricketts in the middle of defence and we will be fine.

My missus (who's in the blood clot game) reckons the biggest danger is if a section of the clot breaks off, and ends up heading for the heart or the brain.

Get well soon Gaz ffs.

yup, increased heart rate, blood moves quicker, more chance of breaking he clot and it getting someplace it shouldnt..

shit happens its time to deal with it, the way most of you lot are going on I thought for a minuet it was June and we'd already gone down.

We are 1 point above the drop.

Cahill has earned us quite a few of them.

I fear we might be in the Championship next season, teams are gonna be lickignthere lips now when they play us

Liverpool v Bolton - Cahill's last match for Bolton?

Worst news ever, it's not fair ffs!

Must be missing somat in amongst those who are still wounded by the sacking of our Gaz and would quickly lay his poor tenure at the feet of OC.

Tell me who bought shittu? who kept AOB around?

coyle comes along and sees 4 centre halves at the club plus quite a number of full backs. So you reckon he should have gone out and bought more without giving the incumbants a chance?

NO if some of the squad aint up to it premier league standard then the blame still rests with megson

GH is a great player but we will still carry on in the same spirt if not even more now.

Don't get down and out boys and girls as one player doesn't make a team nor does it mean we will get relegated. I'm sure Ricketts can do a great job at centre half if asked to play there. I though he looked steady in the position against Fulham, okay he needs to play the big boys too but I'm sure we will pull through.

Onwards and upwards - keep the faith :good:

From the item on the official site, it seems Cahill was taken to hospital not long before the game. Whilst it doesn't entirely excuse player performances or the negative tactics, it must have been on the players' minds and would go some way to explaining them. Now, I believe the players will rally round, and Coyle will make sure they are fired up for tomorrow night. If anyone can turn this into a positive, it is Coyle. To those off to Eastlands, you don't need me to tell you that if you get behind the players, it will lift them and we might just get something out of the game.

Speedy recovery Gary.

O'Brien and Steinsson both trained today.

We've still got 7 first team defenders left plus Basham, so not quite at the stage of recalling Nicky Hunt.

The're all paid good money to come in and take their chance when someone is injured. Owen just needs to find the best combination.
