Reet, Building For Next Season.

Featured Replies

Our problem is, Frank, that we could go through the entire squad and come to similar conclusions about every one of them - maybe apart from the loanees. And what does that say !

Someone at the club has to make a decent team out of most of these players over the summer, coz we won't be able to afford many incoming signings of any quality.

I don't think we'll spend much, but who knows?

WC year is always interesting and some clubs spunk money judging players on very little

Have to agree with Frank's sentiment on Davies, but I do think given a decent pre-season working on it with hopefully some good coaching, Knight and Cahill can be fit for the Premiership

However this will only work if the fullbacks are tighter andthe midfield more solid

Conceding goals isn't just down to the centre-halves

If you think Robinson's a good left back you need your eyes testing pal.

  • robinsons weakness is a lack of pace   his experience, will to win and organising makre him a perfectly adequate full back   the left is definitely stronger than the right

Ok so now we're definitely safe :yahoo:

Looking at the table, 2 columns bother me quite a bit(and a few others I'd guess) - the L and A.

I think our best close season signing could be a proper good defensive coach.

I think Mears at Right Back would be good he's quick and better than we have - I love gretar but he's not quick enough and neither is ricketts but I'd keep ricketts as an energency fill in player who wont rock the boat warming the bench - also if it's not already been mentioned Steve Sidwell will want regular football next season surely keeps up our Villa reserves tag and I think Coyle's growing reputation could attract players of that ilk.

Saturday was a fine example of what we've missed for 2-3 years a proper experienced central midfielder who can put his foot on the ball and pass it long and short.

I've every faith coyley will deliver and if it means selling Cahill so be it ?15m for a centre half I'd snap their hand off - look at our goals against column he wouldn't be that badly missed.

Thats what Davis was signed for then his knee fucked up. Whether Coyle sticks with him or buys another is debabtable

I think that we are getting near the Leroy Lita season. Pay ?8 million for a player who was out on a free a year later after his club decided not to offer him a deal.

Reo Coker would be a good and realistic addition IMO

agreed

Daily Mirror have reported this morning that Coyle could be set to allow TEN players to leave.

Mirror have been pretty much spot on with everything regarding Coyle so far in his managerial career, any idea who these ten could be?

Shittu, AOB, Samuel, Hunt, McCann, Riga, Vaz Te and Elmander are the first few that spring to mind. Could be a few suprise players leaving though.

Shits, AoB, Hunt, McCann, Riga, Vaz, Elamander, Bish-Bash, Temitope and Harsanyi.

Collective value = ?0.00p.

According to a rag on newsnow, we're after Yobo.

That'd do me.

there's also one on there saying we're signing Clarke Carlisle! :(

And Jesus wept.

Ten could include loanees - so add Weiss and Klasnic.

No point keeping junior players who will never be included in the 1st team squad - so add Harsanyi, Obadeyi and Vaz Te.

Permanent crocks need to go (with generous pay-offs) - add JOB and maybe Gardner (I know, I know ...).

Not good enoughs have to go - so add Shittu, Riga, McCann, Hunt (I'd argue with that, but ... ), Cohen (for me).

Marginal ones include Elmander, AOB and Samuel.

Fook ! Is there anyone left ??

If this is true(the 10 players bit),then it's not good news however you look at it.

If he's having to sell to raise funds - not a good sign.

And if 10 leave, presumably quite a few will be coming in to keep the squad depth up.

That didn't work out too well last time we did it.

Sorry to be repeating myself from a thread somewhere else but I really feel we want to be signing 2 or 3 players who are better than(or thought to be ) players in the first XI.

Otherwise we'll end up with a team full of squad players.

Oh aye,and I'll be very disappointed if we sign anyone from Burnley.(Never go back,Owen)

I'd be happy to get rid of Gretar, an unpopular opinion I know (mainly because he claps the fans and puts in a hard tackle every now and again) but he's not very good defensively and his passing is poor. His crossing has got worse. Given a run of 6-8 games at right back (which he hasn't had under Coyle) I think Ricketts will be fine.

Ultimately though, full back is a weak position for us, especially left side.

ive been saying since august the full back issue, both sides, is our big problem. it hasnt improved over the 8 months either.

Yobo, definitely yes. - hes going to 4th choice at everton so can see him wanting a move

Carlisle, dear lord no thanks

Really? Before seeing how they integrate into our squad or trusting the judgement of the manager? Should we just be shopping from G-14 clubs then?

Am i the only one who thinks Robbo has done ok at left back under Coyle?

Fullbacks are the least of our worries possibly slightly after keeper IMO.

i'll get slated for this but with a little confidence boost and under a good manager why can't Nicky Hunt re find the form he had under BSA in all honesty he wasn't a bad player but he seems to have fallen off the face of the earth.

I agree

though I can't see it happening

surprised Alladyce hasn't tried to take him to Blackburn though
