Our season will be succesful or not based on about 8-10 games that if we win them all we will do brilliantly, if w elose them all we will do badly, reality si that we will win/draw/lose them in equal porportion, a signing like Blake is I imagine an option for in certain games when a first choice player is having an off day, is injured/suspended or we need to ret somethign different at the end of a game.

if blake is the right option when this happens and he comes on and makes a difference in two of three of those games then it is worth having him.

fabian defreitas was no john mcginlay, andy walker, owen coyle, mixu...but he did make a difference in games when he played.....not just wembley but the play off semi v wolves and first game of the nextr season at wimbeldon.

is blake a good replaement for klasnic.....NO....is he a good signing ? only time will tell.

correct

but on the face of it

it is a poor signing

one thing was evident last season

davies and elmander are unlikely to score many goals

buying blake as a back up for those 2 players considering he got 2 goals in 20 appearances last season, and who is 34 - on the face of it - is a bit of a concern

if we do go out and buy a new striker, great, only time will tell for him too, but it won't detract from the fact, this is a poor signing, all things considered

my point to frank was - imagine this, we go out and buy aaron lennon - that is a good signing - if we then go out and buy ronaldo, that's a great signing, it doesn't then make lennon a poor signing - likewise, if klasnic does sign on and stay, it doesn't make the blake signing any better than it seems now - only time will tell on that one - i.e. he turns out to be good, or he doesn't

This isn't on official site yet!

Slightly behind times

hope he is just back up and not all we are able to get, time will tell us that

Coyle is shedding all our fringe (dodgy) defenders and buying a load of fringe (dodgy) forwards and wingers. Ace.

He's bought (well not even bought) 1, chill out.

By the look of that comment, you seem to be suggesting hes even going to start games rather than come on and play 20 mins every blue moon. Id be very worried if hes going to be first eleven, VERY.

Just cos Coyle has seen in training etc and knows the budget so what? Doesnt deflect from the fact that ive seen Blake play for various clubs numerous times and hes not the standard of footballer we require. Simple as. Without thinking of it too much, though give me time if we're gonna go done the cheap route to come back with names, im sure there alot better options out there

Get your application in then

Petrove (1) and Blake (1),

Makes (1)! 2

hang on, hang on

isn't he a winger, so more likely back up for chong or the other side?

since frank said he was back up for elmander and kevin it's all gone off bout him being a shit striker

which he is

but i would now like to think coyle is still looking for strikers, back up or first choice

Robbie Blake aint a winger

Forward or attacking midfielder maybe

if we'd had him last season, would you have expected to see him play where chong did or where elmander/davies/klasnic did?

or maybe we're going 4-3-3

its a poor signing and anyone saying its decent is just trying to put a positive spin on it. He's not gonna disturb Elmander/Davies so if he's not gonna play then there was no point is wasting money on wages for someone that is gonna push players for starting places.

Petrove (1) and Blake (1),

So you think Petrov is going to be a fringe player? I doubt it somehow.

I'm not fussed about the Blake signing either way, he won't be a starter but like others have said we are very short on options up front, so if he can come on for 10 or 20 minutes or cover for an injury then it's fine by me. As long as he hasn't been brought in with a view to being a 1st team player (which i'm positive he hasn't) then I don't see the problem.

People seem to be getting very worked up with a squad filling signing.

The signing of Petrov for me is very impressive, theres now rumours of us going after Riquelme who is a top top class player, add to that the fact we are chasing 2 Real Madrid youngsters and have another promising 18 year old striker on trial, and the transfer window isn't even open yet!

People need to calm down and stop trying to find every opportunity to moan.

Certainly not where Chung Lee did

imho, squad fillers are bollocks signings. you buy better than you have already where possible.

the only players that should be worse must have potential to become better than you have.

if you must get a player at the end of their career, then they must bring something either ability or at least experience.

blake is a lower league player and the end of his career.

its an utter nonsense signing.

Certainly not where Chung Lee did

where in our current 11 would you expect him to play / offer back up for?

i don't think it's up front

it doesn't look like out wide

which leaves us covering jack wilshire

or replacing him

or a new formation

or something

in any event, what a load of w?nk

To answer your question...I don't

And I agree with your last line

Not overly arsed yet!

i'd be much more unhappy if coyle said he was signing wilshere to play as a central midfielder in a 4

if he's thinking of playing wilshere as a beardsley type, then blake as cover aint the end of the world

if he's spent the bulk of his spends on petrov and all hes got left is enough for blake and wilshere, what the fcuk do you want him to do?

maybe he shouldn't have signed petrov!

casino

hardly a fully paid up member of the coyle fan club

not knocking coyle or the board or anything

I'm happy with Petrov, he is a good signing

I'm happy if we sign Wilshire, he's a good player

we can speculate on the ins and outs and what have yous all day about formations/budgets

blake may prove to be a great signing and I'll eat humble pie

at this moment in time, he's a past it player who never stood out at premier league level with either burnley or brum, his best days are behind him and we've got him in as cover for someone, presumably, as the thought of him being a first teamer is too much

as it stands it's a w?nk signing

saying so is not a slur on the club, coyle, megson, the fans or whatever, so let's just be honest about it

hands up if didn't think "what the f?ck are we doing signing him?"

i can't say i thought it was owt but a load of shite

having thought a bit and tried to work out whats going on, i've come up with something that satisfies me

now, if coyles next move is to swap taylor for elliott (or similar) without plenty cash benefit, i'll be screaming from the roof tops

"I was speaking to Robbie Blakes sister (Mandy) and OC was on the phone to him whilst she was there. Im not saying we want or will sign him but thats what she told me. Oh, and she's got huge knockers but ive no picture, sorry"

has he got a picture of her knockers yet?

that'd make it the best hear say rumour we've ever had on here, 10/10, well done

So much for younger players. Both signings over 30 so far

Am I missing something or have we signed Blake? Nothing has been made official yet.

Always happy to share, id rather do it whispering but thats out of my hands

Oh, has the pre-season home friendly against a decent team been announced yet

I was just thinking before I read your post that I always thought Blake was a poor mans/lower league Beardsley!

I am certain we are gonna play 4 2 3 1, with the 3 being two wingers and Wilshire hopefully.

So if Blake can come on and give JW a break every now and again for 20 minutes, allowing us to keep the same shape then I think its a great signing all things considered.

Got to trust Coyle if he's worked with the bloke, he has always looked a decent player to me albeit in lower divisions, he has always been well liked by the teams he has been at which says a lot too.
