Students Protesting All Over London

Featured Replies

The thing is Kent, who is going to pay for the damage and the policing, THE TAXPAYER, not the fuckin student union, as Stevieb says, if it was a football gathering, BNP or EDL they would have been beaten and arrested by now, and for your information I am a student.

Athy you fucking workshy, tax dodging, sandal wearing, Mao worshipping, Countdown watching, home counties Mummy's boy! :blum:

I take your point though - they would have tear gassed them if it had been a football crowd.

The fuckin lot of them should be water cannoned, pepper sprayed, batoned and then thrown in the Thames, fuck off to Eastern Europe and try that and you'll get shot, workshy tax doging fuckin layabouts

  • Pack of lazy scum-bags.   I know otherwise intelligent people who honestly believe that with the current shortage of funds, 3 year holidays at the tax payer's expense should be a priority.   Never

  • I agree with you.   Quite a lot of people will pay less than they do now. The way all this is being portrayed is likely to do more harm than the changes themselves. Nothing to pay upfront, nothing t

If we all try hard enough, I'm sure we can crowbar in some more tired student cliches.

Let's see, we've done scruffy, unwashed, living off the state, being called Tarquin.

Hang on, I've thought of one. Watching Countdown and having 10 wanks whilst eating cornflakes out of a pan.

What point are you making ?

That people have a cliched view of students? People have a cliched view of most sectors of society. The point I made about Tarquain is that in the protest there a lot of middle class kids gettign involved in the heat of the moment, but the situation was stoked up by a small number of politically motivated militants who would be there to protest whatever the anti government cause.

I was just saying that the people are standing off as they know the students will be fucking off soon to watch Neighbours. I have been a student union leader, I was on the last major protest by students 25 years ago and everything I think on this protest is based on having been on one.

You may mock at this suggestion, we as an organisation [in the drug and alcohol field] run a very good volunteer program, in which 75% are studemts, in the last 3 years, volunteering for us has helped 9 people get full time jobs in this field.

I advertised 2 new jobs a couple of months ago, I had 37 applications, many from students who couldn't fill in an application form correctly

Yeah - just the first bit really!

ive not been following this, but arent they already in education?

does it actually affect such students?

or just new students?

and i guess current students who are going to do ANOTHER course?

I don't expect 25k, Probation you start on 17k, prison services 15k. The problem with jobs for graduates is crazy at the minute, I was being rejected from HMV for being over qualified. With more people 'with experience' already in their field being made redundant, the people who are graduating now haven?t got a hope in hells chance of getting their career started. Ideally I would like to use my degree!

I'm not saying you, just a general perception of students. Many go into university with no idea what they wan't out of it, just a piss up, which to me is plain daft considering the investment. At least you have had an idea where you want to go with your career. What I don't get is how your over qualified for HMV? I don't see how your degree has any relevance to being employed there? Being overqualified in that instance would be like saying a 32 year old business & management graduate going for a check out assistant job.

I've seen people get rejected for being over qualified ofcourse, but in the current climate, we have 2 blokes with chemistry doctorates working as technicians on circa 17k.

Homer, I think students generally remain on the payment band they started on, i.e., people will only be affected who start uni in 2012.

The Sky News woman asked them that question & after a few umms and arhs they said, well it's solidarity innit, or something like that. Either way, very few of them appeared eloquent & no thats not a clich?, it's the impression they gave on the tv.

I have an intake of graduates every so often as Trainees

I can honestly say that the standard of graduate is wank

And I'm talking about a mixture of ex red-brick and poly students; from 1sts to 3rd class degrees

I give them a simple intelligence test to do and the amount that fail is astounding; but generally the scary thing is the lack of empolyable traits

I gave up on advertising in the MEN a couple of years ago (due to the horrific responses - some of which couldn't talk properly) and now use Agencies only....they are all complaining about the lack of candidates

Yet the media says there are loads out there

Yep there are, but they're mostly no fucking use whatsoever

The original purpose of universities was, as Jules points out, to provide a place where the brightest members of society could be free to advance and improve the human race. Expanding and developing, researching and pushing te boundaries.

Nowadays, in far too many cases, it's just a piss poor excuse to stay pissed and get laid for another 3 years. Which on a certain level I'm fine with.

On a realistic level, it's now just a way for universities to cash in. Do you honestly think Oxbrige colleges would let you do a degree in studying football crowds or Jordan's tits? No. But some will because it means another ?10k in the pot for anyone signing up.

They should cut the crap and make a larger proportion of courses vocational. That way, graduates can sit in an interview saying they can actualy make something rather than filling the room full of hot air about how they studied the reactions of passers by for 3 fucking years to get a psychology degree.

Fuck em, they all think they are more intelligent than the rest of us without a degree Media Sociology.

Its hilarious

Would have been quite ironic if those coppers on duty knocked off at normal finish time due to tory imposed overtime cuts at the Met and left the place to be ransacked. Not that they seemed to be doing much in the first place TBH.

Fcukin Hippies!Send in the tanks!

if there are two many graduates does nt that mean there are too many universities?

therefore if we want to save money should nt some of the universities be shut down unless the universities are commercially viable? The only way to measure commercially viable is if people are prepared to pay enough to go there. so let the unis charge fees and see if people will pay them, if not the place closes down.

This will save money abd free up funds to spend on more essential front line services.

Have i become a Tory this afternoon?

Let's face it, it is the leftie students that are complaining....the ones that think the government should give them free education from the age of 3 till 22, then guarantee them a highly paid, secure job, free housing and healthcare and then a fat pension....

Pack of lazy scum-bags.

I know otherwise intelligent people who honestly believe that with the current shortage of funds, 3 year holidays at the tax payer's expense should be a priority.

Never mind that the proposed changes would symultaneously improve funding for universities, maintain the fact that no one need pay for university education, and reduce the repayment rate for the lowest paid.

Quite a few went down from Birmingham today were I'm at. It isn't going to affect me, or anyone else that went, so I couldn't give a fuck.

I don't. We aren't all cunts born with a silver spoon up the arse.

I take it you wouldn't cross their picket line? The police should be handing out loan tasers to help you machet? your way through.

Far too many fcuking students (thank you once again, Labour). 66% of the fcukers should have been put through trade apprenticeships. They could then come here and earn money well in advance of what doctors and dentists earn there.

Bloody 'ell P, you'd actually want 66% of them fuckers where you live? :o

i never considered myself a true student,

vast majority think they are better than most, the whole affair is disgraceful and i reckon the govenment should shove another 3k on tuition fee's to pay for it..

maybe..

Bolty, did you know that Australia has the highest percentage of population going to University? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/7604631.stm

I can quite see why you'd be in favour of the UK paying for the education of apprentices in order for them to go off to Australia once qualified, great idea for the Aussie economy.

For the rest of you, the expansion of the UK Universities was actually Tory policy, under John Major.

But hey, as usual, lets just ignore the facts and have a good rant against Labour, and hooray for the "I'm all right, Jack", attitude from the current & recent crop of WW students.

And why not? Maybe they don't actually have that much of a grievance to it? Sure fees are going up in 2 years time but so has the level before you start paying back the effectively interest free loan.

It is just an excuse for a good old student union demo which then inevitably draws those who like to smash the place up - just like pretty much all other demo's.
