Midfield Quandry

well it is for me ,

presuming holden is fit , he goes straight back in without question , now could we start with holden/m.davies in the centre against roverrs. Muamba has been awful against blackpool and city - i still cant understand how a professional central midfielder can not pass a ball to a team mate 10 yards away OR pass it 4 yards forwards. i know people will say yeah but he tackles and wins the ball but holden does that better than muamba does , and when he does win the ball you know he,s gonna give it away ot turn round and look for jussi . i aint knockin muamba but asking opinion of whether or not you good people think a holden/m.davies central midfield pairing would work .

our best 4 midfield player are........holden muamba davies(M) and dogeater.

the question is how you best fit them 4 on the pitch at any one time.

could we sacrifice a wide man and ask one of holden, davies or muamba cover out iwde when needed.....

both are too foward thinking for my liking.

but to be fair, coyle has muamba bombing forward at every opportunity anyway so why the fuck not.

i aint knockin muamba

You are a bit!

Holden and Muamba looked like it was working to me.

Davies and Muamba didn't.

I'd rather go back to what I know worked than try something that might not.

It's tough on Davies because he's played well, but changing the shape of the team might be the only way to properly accommodate him, and I don't see Coyle doing that.

Holden and Muamba in the middle - no question

I'd have M Davies on the right and Taylor on the left

Solid and creative

So where does the Korean fit in? I reckon he is worth a place in the team too.

I would go for Lee, Holden, M Davies and Petrov

If Petrov starts after how he played at City its a disgrace. If Matt Taylor had played like Petrov did last week he would of had death threats ::lol::

Thats spot on for me. It is tough on M Davies but we have to do whats best for the team and Holden and Muamba was working well before Holden got injured. We should go back to tried and tested formula. Maybe M Davies could get a chance on the wing if the wingers currently in the team dont improve because they arent doing enough imo.

The way I see it is that Davies would fit best in a 5 man midfield, which I think should have been played agaist City's big men in midfield (easy saying now I know). Going forward he looked really good but when defending/tackling he disappeared and we were lost in the middle of the park.

Dropping Muamba is a big no-no for me, especially against a physical side such as Blackburn.

i think davies might get a go as a wideman when ping pong goes on his jollies

til then, back to the bench.....with petrov

Exactly.

Dropping Muamba would be suicidal as we're close to getting overrun in midfield already.

Mark Davies has played well individually & will get his chance again, but as a midfield unit we weren't as effective as we were with-

Taylor -Muamba -Holden -Lee.

Taylor Holden Muamba LCY for me.

Our best midfield when playing 4-4-2 is Taylor-Muamba-Holden-Chungy. Away from home against the bigger teams I would like to see us play 4-5-1 with Taylor-M.Davies-Muamba-Holden-Chungy, but that would leave out either SKD or Elmander which on current form wont happen.

I think he should just back to the side that was winning before Holden got injured

Taylor / Holden / Muamba / Chong

the only change I would make to that is Petrov in for Taylor, but probably not V Rovers

3 of Moreno, Klasnic, Petrov and Davies to come off the bench at some point

Petrov should be no where near the starting xi IMO

Undoubted ability but doesn't do nearly enough

i think davies might get a go as a wideman when ping pong goes on his jollies

I was thinking that would be Moreno's time to shine, starting in the cup game v York

Blackpool last 20 mins aside, Coyle seems to stick players in their "correct" positions, i.e. wingers or left/right sided players on the flanks and central mids in the middle, so would be surprised if he went with Davies on the right before Moreno

It'll be Taylor, Muamba, Holden, Lee next time out.

M Davies suspended and Petrov dropped for his petulant reaction to "taking one for the team" today.

well , i rang coyle last night and explained my midfield quandry , he said its awreet crampo i,ve seen it on w.ways , watch the line up tomorro .

Davies and Holden didn't or doesn't work, which ever way round you want it. Soon as Muamba came on and yes I know it was forced, we look more solid in midfield. With Muamba in place it releases Holden to do what he does best, run about.

Spot on. I'm almost pleased Coyle will be forced in to this selection for a while.

Muamba has very good pace which makes a big difference imo. It has to be Holden and Muamba from now on imo. Davies has done well but the team comes first.

Davies has made it easy for him next week.

Would like to see Holden and Davies again though, just think it was the wrong option against Blackburn.

COYWM

As I've said above, I'd like to see M Davies on the right tather than the continually ineffective Chung

We'll be able to change the right wing when Lee goes off with South Korea next month, he hasn't been at his best in the last 3 games[not done anything wrong though] but was excellent against Wolves and Newcastle, Lee was more like a right back yesterday and Ricketts was doing the attacking runs. Many players will find it hard against a negative 5-4-1 formation.

Felt a bit sorry for Petrov yesterday. I thought it was his best game for us by a country mile.
