Birmingham Away 91

Reading some stories about Stokies having a rough time at St Andrews on the "Oat Cake", caught the the train from Manc to NS, walked down and called in the scruffy pubs in Bordesley, kin hell every fuckers got shaved heads, only two of us, so we didnt get sussed, had a good drink, no mither. Went on the Brummie end and kept our gobs shut. After the game Brum went mental attacking Wanderers outside the ground with bricks on that wasteland, outnumbered me and the mate jumped on a special bus back to the bullring.with the blue nose cunts.

I think Ju Ju Ju Darby scroed a couple of headers that day.

Coming out of the away end (on the old spion kop - opposite to where away fans are now) in the dark and seeing them charging over that field could have been a scene from Zulu itself. We were only 16 or 17, got chased us back to our van which also got a hammering.

Happy days.

I remember that very well. All the away fans were let out then all the coppers came running past us, I remember thinking, where the fuck are them lot going, then the all ran back in the ground and locked the doors, just as the Zulu's came over the top of that hill on the waste ground

Mayhem

Good Job I was wearing a jetpack as I managed to take off of fly over their heads just in time

Good day that, we were pissed when we came out the ground, the cops tried to make us walk aroiund that field/waste ground, we refused and started walking across the field, it was a mexican stand off for a good 10 minutes, we carried on walking and got back to our car unscathed.

They got their bricks etc from the housing estate they were building not far behind the away end

I was 12 and scared as fuck

We ended up getting chased through there, dodging flying bricks and scaffold bars.

Was on crutches for that game and the Anthill Mob wrecking crew showed their true colours and scarpered when it got dodgy - shithouses! I stood my ground with my sticks.

Shouting "have a heart lads. I'm just a poor cripple."

On the dark streets across the wasteland/field I went past an empty transit with "Bolton van hire " or similar on the side. There were loads of Brummies waiting around it, but close by at a burger van there was a non-moving queue of lads. I thought they were obvious as fcuk, but the thick brummies never sussed them out & though 1 or 2 vans got damaged, surprisingly I don't think anyone got badly hurt.

Happy-but scary-days.

Christ on the day I thought we did nt have many there, clearly were all off here.

We just kept walking and the Zulus went straight past us, I must have looked tough.

That wasteland behind St Andrews was always a rough place, after playing Fulham in the 2nd Replay in the LC, Bolton fans got bricked to fuck, off waiting gangs of Brum cunts.

I was at the game aye.

Our cards have always been marked since that Sunday game at Burnden, when they got chased all the way up Manny Rd.

I was in the queue for a burger, as our van was parked across the wasteland, next to me was the hardest lad in our van watching the mayhem, can't believe we all got back in the van in 1 piece, from memory isaac was waiting at the van when the brummies attacked, don't think he ever moved as fast again.

That game was moved to the Sunday lunchtime as Birmingham made a lot of noise about getting revenge after the game the previous season at Burnden, that was when the bad blood started.

That Sunday game, they had scores of black lads stood under the floodlight on the embankment dancing to their jukebox (ghetto blaster in those days) and passed fairly quietly.

The game a few years later, about 94, they came in numbers at the end of the season, lots of them in the manny road north and south...until about 3.10pm. :D

Karen Brady had to go outside to calm down thise who hadnt got in.

Remember it well mate, we had progressed through the ranks to Manny Road regulars at that time and they were coming in as though they were Bolton lads, paying cash to the turnstile operators we believe, [allegedly] it really did go pear shaped but what fun for us :D

Remember it well, head down and kept on walking straight to the car with the odd diversion arcross a road or two.

Did they shout Zulu at the time or is my memory fading?

Werent they all buying bolton tee shirts from happy shop, then getting tickets from TO for manny road north?

A good few of them had Bolton scarves as well

I was only early teens at the time, but I remember being stood outside Burden ticket office waiting with my old man for his mate. A Brum fan came running over giving it the big 'un, I always remember it as that the bloke stood next to me (Bolton fan), just stuck his fist out and the Brum fan ran into it and floored himself :D

Think it was the same game as when one of the yam yams scaled the floodlight on the embankment.

Remember the '91 game very well. However, better than some as it was 1990!! Just. I know as I'd just started dating the wife and her ex had glassed me the night before!!!!

Went to Brum in the car with two mates. As we went 3-1 up and out of reach, we could see a hefty mob of Birmingham lads to our right start to leave the game early. We all gulped knowing full well they weren't heading home. It was obvious something would happen outside but not on the level it did. Coming over that wasteland was a huge mob, remember a police horse going over in some kind of moat and fans just scarpering everywhere. We never stood a chance as we were pretty congested coming out of that exit.

We quickly mingled in with streams of "normal" Brum fans walking up the road, and just kept our heads down. Remember some huge growler tearing over the road towards us shouting "c'mon you Bolton fuckers" - however he was just speculating that some of the fans streaming up the road were Bolton..... we didn't respond. Even though we were 18 and daft, we also realised what a fuckin' good beating we'd get if we responded.

Back to the car we were jibbering messes. Got out of the car park we were in (some industrial units) and joined the huge queue of traffic heading down the hill past the ground. Mobs of Birmingham lads were going up to every car looking through the windows and checking out who was who. I held the streering lock in my hand for dear life thinking we'd get a good twatting. We got lucky.

Never before I have been so glad to get away from such an evil atmosphere.

Believe it or not that was my last trip to St Andrews in 1991, I vowed never to go back again. After the game on top of the hill they came running down to the away fans shouting 'zulu zulu' bricks showered down on us, we didnt have any pistols or even spears so on our toes we went. As hundreds came a few brave Bolton souls didnt fookin budge and stayed whatever they were meant to receive, I sort of learned then in myt teens my place in the food chain!! Our tranny van was parked near the travel club coaches and we were happy to follow them home and let them get all the attention.

If my memeory serves me right; I think we got put on our toes when we all got bck to the Van, but we mobbed up with a few other Bolton lads & ran them bck up past that burger van. Or did I dream it? Twas a good old mob them brummies had though. Pretty sure we had a go at em!!!!

Isaac getting owd!!!
