You must admit for a Levenshulme lad, you have had some good laughs over the times with the Trotters.

Tough one this. Realised it at an early age and had a lot of early examples. Bit of a blur knowing which was the first? Big Dennis taking on 15 coppers behind Hopkys net at Deepdale? Mad Tony hanging. one handed like a suspended chimp, off a girder under the cantilever stand at Millmoor? Some nutters torching Bury railway station as the train pulled out? Warbys taking on all comers including both Leeds and Man U in that FA Cup semi? (I know this last one's not an away game but it wasn't a home game for BWFC either).

A more recent one was Burnley away on Boxing Day 2009, went into a certain pub in Deane at 10.00am and it was packed with 'lads' I said to one of our lot "if it goes off today we won't come second" there must have been at least 100 in there early doors, it sort of made you feel 'at home'

I'd heard the stories from the big lads on athy park, usually on a Saturday night after the event. Could tell it was tasty at the Wigan games the mid 80's (particulalry the northern final at Springfield Park) but the first time I really thought 'fuck me' was the FA Cup game at Burnley in 87.

Not the first incident I saw, but the lasting one.... someone knocked a coppers helmet off in the away end at York City back in the 80s. Another lad picked up the helmet and smashed it into the face of the copper. Not pretty. Made me realise we had some loons in our midst. Though, I do believe the heavy-handedness of the police back in the day sometimes brought on a lot of the trouble. In this instance it did. Saw other similar instances where a copper got a fresh cup of steaming hot coffee flung in his face at Notts County. Fully deserved? He was acting a cock. Justified, hmmmm, not sure. But I didn't lose any sleep.

 

Burnley '87 was menkull.

I was there that day and the same age .Always Blackpool away and Preston, the one that Bolty refers to, also confirmed the fact.

A bit nearer in time was a Wolves match at home in the early nineties.

I got to the King Bill early ahead of my mates and it was full of Wolves fans. It looked as if they were there for the day so I stood near the door next to Big Nick who was on door duty. After a pint, I decided that I would be safer outside.

As I was leaving, a group of young lads walked in and went straight into the pool room at the back. As I left, Nick closed the doors. 5 mins later, a glass ash tray came flying through the window, followed by a pool ball, followed by all the Wolves fans through the door in a blind panic. I saw another glass ashtray bounce off the head of one Wolves fan as he scrambled out of the door.

10 min later, the pub was back to normal, full of home fans.

QPR away, early train, pub opened up for us to have some brekkie, few bars then in a pub near Loftus Road, police locked us in there till kick off escorted us down to the ground and then after the game the qpr fans tried having a go but failed police quickly moved us on ended up in some seedy pub where there were some strippers, one of the lads ws havin a whip round for the women to do a lesbian show, she refused, ashtrays and glasses were flying in disgust!!!

 

I was only 16 or so and never been exposed to these kinds of things

Was on that early train, QPR were up for it that day, one of my mates suffered a gash to his head, the incident in the pub was a little out of order, but it was a good day out all the same.

Huddersfield away 97ish, loads of battling before the game and behind the away end, riot police got called in during the match. Black Sunday is definitley the first time i witnessed serious disorder, i'll never forget the Man U team coach pulling in before the game

Barnsley away FAC 3rd round. Police dogs in our end getting kicked, helmets going up and 'kill the bill' sang most of the game. That was before town.

For me Halifax away in FA cup we scored in last muinute cue massive pitch invasion.

10 AM?? me and Jay were on our 5th pint by that time, quality day out, chuckling to myself now thinking about the coach journey to the ground, the driver thought we were going to fill him in

One of the funniest things that morning was trying to get some sense out of Gubbins, the driver was a knob of the highest order, I knew we should have got on Zozzy's bus.

Did anyone pay a train fare on that day, I got on the first train out of Bolton, no idea how, it was mental, standing room only on the train, even the overhead luggae racks were full off people, cant remember it that was one when the train emptyed at preston the give some reds a bit of a thumping and the back on the train to Blackpool it was like the keystone cops

Did not catch the train that day, about 30 of us left the Vic boozer on chorley old road in the back of a transit van, claustrophobic to say the least. we had just left a pub (near that windmill as you enter Blackpool) when a mob of blackpool spotted us, one of the lads in our company produced a hammer from his coat and ran into them yelling ''tally ho'' was looking a bit hairy for a moment until another luton van full of bolton saw what was happening, and piled out the van there must have been about 40+ that pilled out

 

I've never seen so many mobs on street corners that day.

I remember at Blackpool late 70's early 80's, there was a mass battle on the promenade, one of our lads had a bright coloured t shirt on, the rest of us had denim jackets on, he stuck out like a sore thumb, he got nicked for lobbing a brick at the blackpool lot, he was on Granada Reports a few weeks later having been fined ?175 which was a massive fine in those days.

It was a home game for me. Newcastle came to town and brought millions. They had just signed Keagan and it was Newcastles first Saturday away game fixture. The Geordies where given the home part of the Embankment and the Manny Rd terrace didn't seem to care that the numbers where not in their favour. Chicken oriental that lot.

Similar time we played York away, ended climbing in a fence to not get squashed as Bolton were fighting with police. It was also pissing down i seem to remember with a big lad in just a white t-shirt near a bridge outside the ground.

the kop that day was closed and bolton given the side part of the ground, so many Bolton turned up that many climbed over the fence and got into the kop.

The bastard Blackpool police knew they was Blackpool lads. they never got near the kop as the bolton fellas realised straight away who they were.

 

 

I remember one copper yelling in the mayhem that they are Bolton, you fools, one bolton fella yelled back, fuck off they are Blackpool and you know it.
