Getting Sussed Wearing Colours.

Just laughing how easy meat we were sporting our teams scarves at away matches in the 70s, we got cute in the 80s and just blended in with the flow, with a little BWFC badge pinned on your jacket.

Went to Burnley as a kid in my mates dads car, and I had the scarf out the back window.

We were parked at lights in town and a dingle blew his nose on my scarf, needless to say it was then thrown away.

That give me a splutter AH. I was daft enough to be the only lad wearing a Bolton top who had to walk all the way round the ground passing the Lauto Hools from Plovdiv. after the game.

We caught a cab from Sunny Beach to Plovdiv and got dropped right in the centre, all with Wanderers tops on. Five Bulgarian skinheads in a clapped out Yugo stopped nearby giving us the cut throat sign. Didn't stop us going in a few bars though, but think we got lucky looking back on it. Only felt safe when we got to that little bar near the ground were all the bolton not reets had gathered.

There was a good crew there if had kicked off, but there was far too many police to stop any serious trouble.

We stopped in Bourgas, and just used our room for thirteen of us to have a wash & brush up after our long trip from Sofia, had the secret police following our movements all day. Just got a stranglehold round my neck off some Loco lad before the game, just about right for the games to come.

yeh sorry, meant taxi from sunny beach to bourgas.

another group with us hired a car in sofia,to bourgas, and got into mither on the way back to sofia, with plovdiv fans chasing em over the mountain roads, after they picked up the plovdiv road by mistake.

We stopped in Bourgas, Leigh but there was that soup where we didn't know wtf it was :dribble:

Still got mine pinned on my crombie.

Embarrassing admission time. Me and me kid brother would have been summat like 9 & 6. Innocent, wide eyed kids in love with the Whites and Wyn Davies was our hero.

Th'owder end will remember that there was a real fad of football fans wearing industrial hard hats at games around that time and th'owd chap browt us both one home.

Painted up in BWFC colours with stuff like 'Wyn Davies' written on em - we thought we were the dogs.

Home game v Sheffield United. Excitement building up to the game all week was unbearable. Set off from Tonge Moor at about 9am. Legged it into town then all the way down Bradshawgate and Manny Road. Turned on to the Burnden car park and a mob of a hundred or so Blades were just walking up towards the King Bill. No other f'ucker about.

Their ringleader would have been about 25 and a right nasty c'unt. They surrounded us (and towered over us), took the hats and then said words to the effect of 'If you don't shout 'up the blades', we're gomna kick your f'ucking heads in'. By this time, me brother was blubbering a little bit but, rather than give in the game little f'ucker jumped forward and kicked the bloke in the shin. We copped a right pasting until some of their older end stepped in and said 'leave em alone, they're just kids'. First reaction was to clip little brothers ear but it didn't take long to be proud o't lad.

Never remember coming off second best again (apart from being glassed by a Hells Angel at the Seven Stars in Heywood but not football related). That day was a turning point.

Funnily enough, little brother got nabbed by the OB on that exact same spot in a mass brawl with Huddersfield in a pre season friendly around 10 years later. Got off on 'mistaken identity' :D

Swansea, last away match of the season mid 80's

Just after my birthday, been bought some England gear, which I was wearing with pride.

We were watching Saint & Greavsie in a pub, and just saw a load of faces jumping up to see over the frosted glass

Next thing the pub is being rushed, although the landlady did a marvellous job on her own of blocking the door.

I wondered what all the fuss was about, and how could they possibly know.

Then the penny dropped.

Numb as a piss stone.

Boxing Day 95 away at Sunderland Mixu scred think it was 1-1 at Roker, some mackem saw my scarf peeping out over my coat, he started to fooking lay into me, I was only 15, the twat, luckily my pals dad came back to drag him off and throw me in the back of the car, had a big egg shaped lump on my napper for a few days

That give me a splutter AH. I was daft enough to be the only lad wearing a Bolton top who had to walk all the way round the ground passing the Lauto Hools from Plovdiv. after the game.

Getting lost on that estate after the game was a bit worrying.

Walked/thumbed up to Burnley in 76 for an Anglo Scottish cup game at Burnley. I think they'd just been relegated from the top tier.

Got a lift on the back of a flat-bed truck from around the Jumbles to Rawtenstall and walked the rest of the way. (That'd not happen these days!)

Half way down that fucking big hill (Manchester Road) we decided discretion was the better part of valour and we hid our scarves. We were only 14 after all and decided we didn't fancy taking on the whole of Burnley on the way through the town.

A group of lads were stood at a bus stop and legged us onto an estate. We didn't know where the fuck we were and they knew all the ginnels and pathways. Anyway, after a bit of running they ended up surrounding us and demanding our cash and scarves. We tried putting on a local accent in a bid to convince them we were local. Bad idea because they then thought we were taking the piss out of their accent.

A woman and a bloke had seen the commotion from their garden and came out. We took the chance to run like hell and managed to get far enough out of the way.

I remember the numbers the other way round and a lot of showboating Lower East style by our lot behind the police line.

None of that lot were in town before the game when the cops weren't around.

Not sure which bar you are talking about but there was a number of older Bolton lads about for that game that really would not be posturing ESL style.

'Copped a right pasting' at 6 years old?

Are you sure you got your ages right, old fella?

Oh yes, absolutely spot on. All sideburns and quiffs they were. Probably what launched me on the Mod path :D

I know you're intellectually challenged, Vladimir but Wyn Davies should give you a clue.

Try googling it.

It sure was Barry, it was like walking round Bermondsey after a Millwall match flaunting your colours.
