Your First Match

Apologies if this has been done before.

Surely everyone can remember their first Bolton match?

Mine (and my bro's too I would imagine) was when Newcastle, but more importantly Kevin Keegan, came to town in 1982. We won 3-1 but bizarrely, with me only being a nipper, I can only really remember being in the beer garden yard at the Hen & Chickens before the game and an old guy sat in front of me on the terrace (or was it the embankment?) eating a packet of biscuits and me wanting one.

My next game was possibly the most depressing I've still been to, but also the one that made me realise I was a Wanderer for life... in 1987 when we drew 2-2 with Aldershot to get relegated to the 4th division. I still remember the paddock singing, "We love you Bolton, we do" even though there was no hope.

Err... no I can't

Frank Worthington's home debut, on the embankment with my legs through the metal fence at the front.

mine was when we beat reigning english champions, blackburn rovers 2-1 at burnden in august '95. think stubbs & de freitas scored. been a love affair ever since.

Beat Ipswich 6-0 on 18 September 1963. Stood on Embankment with my older sister and a cousin. Didn't know at the time that it would be the start of a life-long obsession.

The first game I can remember was against Bury when we beat them 1-0 in the play-offs. I'd been going for a while before that, but can't really recall the games.

My name was announced over the tannoy 5 mins into that game. "Would the father of Dazbobparr please go to the gate. Your son is waiting there and you have his ticket."

Thanks Dad!

Pretty sure my dad took me to my first game in 1990. Against Crewe I think. I remember we won, and there were a few goals. Might be wrong though. I'd have to dig my old programme collection out of my dads attic to be sure.

1992 FA cup against southampton

73 or 74, Hull City home, we won 4 or 5 to one.

Remember nothing really about the game, except being dragged from somewhere up Daubhill over the bridges to Manny Road.

And it rained.

And I seem to remember it in black and white rather than colour for some nostalgic reason.

Mine was a 1939 derby at Burnley 1-1. Really good atmosphere that day despite the war starting a few months earlier. Harry Goslin was excellent as usual.

Strange thing was we played in Claret and Blue if I remember rightly.

I went to one or two night matches in the Jimmy Armfield era but the match I remember most (opposition, scores, etc.) was Newcastle in the FA Cup.

I was brought up in RL country and watched Warrington. But when my uncle was over from Co Durham we went to watch Everton v Bolton August 56. Incidentally he used to take Colin Todd + his dad to watch elder brother play (for Bishop Auckland, I think). Really, though he was a cricketer, but gave up the game aged 68 (he is now 96 - if he gets depressed he watches a video of Newcastle 5 ManU 0, that seems to put him right).

I stayed with RL till I became an active athlete in 1961. Really got back to football with my son when he was 8 or so.

I used to live within hearing distance of Burnden*, this might be false memory but I swear my Uncle took me and my Dad to the match, corporate seats in he early 80s - there was beer on tap (glass pints) so...my Dad and Uncle got w***ered and we lost. Went once more as a kid and didn't go back 'til I was working.

My first game was Liverpool in F.A Cup at Burnden, my street westbourn ave was chock a block with cars. think it was early 70s. we lost the game as well

Bolton 0-1 Brentford

Last year we had the Normid Kit, so I am thinking 1990??

I am sure some statto will know the exact date

I don't think that was your next game, didn't Bolton play Bristol City at Wembley the year before and get beaten 3:0 in the Leyland Daf Cup - I'm sure that was in 1986, if so, then it was your second match and not the Aldershot game of grimness

Same for me, my first game was the home leg and my second game was the away leg when we lost on pens, we only got to the ground at half time as well. Must have only been 8!

In the early 80s/late 70s GL used to be full of gloryhunters parking up  We drew Barrow at one point and it was gridlocked from the Brooklyn to Weston Street.

Mine was a 1939 derby at Burnley 1-1.
