I have been thinking about this for about 48 mins now.

 

What if Jussi straps a pair of boots round his knee caps, then the next time he flaps away at a ball like a baby wanting its bottle, he would provide the optical illusion of still being stood up.

Neither.

Jussi is no longer agile enough IMO. That's nothing to do with a dip in form.

 

He's not going to get any of his agility back. Anything hit hard, low down, or high up ito the corners beats him too esily nowadays.

 

 

 

 

He just tends to fall to his knees a lot whenever something is hit towards the top corner.

 

He does that when he has no chance of getting. You know when you are beaten so the reaction doesn't matter

 

Having said that, I'm not sure Bogdan looks ready yet - he certainly didn't against t'Rovers.

We seem to be able to hold a much higher line in defence with Bogdan.

 

Noticed that away to Fulham in the Cup.

 

Jussi isn't as quick as he was off his line and it means that the defence plays much deeper which leaves acres in front of them.

 

e.g another of our problems v Stoke.

The only reason he looks like he's on his knees when we concede is because he's on his knees for EVERY shot taken at him, for a reason. It's easier to block low shots (which most of them are) if you have a lower centre of gravity. That's not exactly brain surgery to figure that out!

 

Let's let him stand (rather than kneel) when he concedes goals, but I fear that we'd see it twice as often as him kneeling.

but say 3/4 years ago - his anticipation, decision making and agility meant he wasn't as often caught on his knees when a goal went in, more than likely he'd make a better decision or was quicker to react

 

whereas for me, last season, he seemed to make the decision to go to his knees too early and for a fair few goals is caught almost kneeling down whilst his arms flail in the direction the ball actually went in

 

it's a tactic that may have served him much better in the past than it does now

 

certainly happens more than it used to, which I guess might be a sign of Jussi's age catching up with him

he still has some great games, villa being one of them, but not as often and Bogdan better be really good as we're about to let a ?4M keeper go - and I don't value either of our 1st choice 2 at that figure right now

Surely it's the pace of your defence, or the opponent's attack that determines how high/deep your defensive line is??

Theres not many keepers in the Premiership I would swap Jussi for.

I would of preferred to keep al habsi for competition and sent bogdan out on loan but I think habsi wants to be number 1 or nothing so thanks for Munich just don't go keeping those fuckers up next season.

Jussi still adequate and for that reason he should be forst cjhoice, but I am with Mick Brown, big mistake letting Habsi go especially to that shower down the road.

I don't get all this Al Habsi is the best keeper nonsense. There are a number of Premier teams on the look out for a keeper and only Wigan have shown an interest in him. He is not as good as everyone is making him out to be and certainly not as good as Jussi. OK he made a good save in Munich and played in some end of season games when the team as a whole were responsible for avoiding relegation and that's it.

Have a +1 Biff, could not have put it better myself. Al Habsi is a good shot stopper, but I would be a lot more nervous with him in goal for a match rather than Jussi.

 

A lot of people seem to have jumped on the band-wagon with the whole "Jussi is too old" shit, all this falling on his knees is bullshit too. It didn't help when he had one of his poorest games I can remember for us on a big stage in the cup semi which just seemed to strengthen everyones feelings because it's a game that everybody remembers.

I'm not having that, Jussi over his time here has had some absolute storming perfromance. In recent years Jussi away at Hull was easily as good a peformance, if not better. Yet the glamourous opposite that night in Germany seems to taint eveyones opinion.
