Renting V Buying

Featured Replies

whats the verdict on it, in an apartment at the mo but can't stand the noise of people stomping about upstairs or people setting washers off at midnight and having the whole place shudder so am now on the hunt for a house, thing is though the price of renting houses is madness so is it wiser to buy?

then get a house with a removable patio for ease of disposing of said neighbors :pardon:

Or... rent a better apartment. Sounds like youve got caravan walls!

I'm saving up and will be buying at auction in 30 months, I want a house where I can do what I want. Rent is dead money in my books.

Ive bought J. no point paying someone else's mortgage for them. Im glad i got on the property ladder when i did last xmas. Scary but best thing ive ever done.

Having a garden helps as well. Apartments must be shit for that

Aye ive missed that! Though "summer" this year has hardly been garden weather. No chance of me getting a mortgage ATM. Also no chance im living in the outskirts of fucking Manchester.

Put your name down for a council house, housing estates in Bolton have been tamed.

for what I saw in bolton town centre today, not a fuckin chance

2 years left on my mortgage, best thing I ever did

Looking at the markets and what the analysts are saying, I would rent. By 2013 they are saying 30% will have come off the current house prices, which would then be a good time to buy.

I started on that Bolton One site today so mooched out for dinner and cut through the market

To say I was horrified is an understatement

Seem we have more Romanians here now than asians

The good thing about renting is you can move. It's dead money but so is paying interest on your mortgage. What's the difference?

no point buying for us atm.,

Missus friend bought, theyve since had a kid, and cant afford to move to a bigger house if they want another..

when house prices come down I'll buy, but on my street the houses are selling for 140k and they are tiny.. its just not worth it...

Paid my mortgage off by the time I was 50. So now just sitting on an asset that is showing me a handsome profit even in today's depressed market and nothing to pay except running costs.

No brainer for me.

Long term then buying is definitely the way to go. Simple reason you will be paying rent all your life, but a mortgage is only for 25 years of it.

Also the rent will keep increasing without fail. Barring any major interest rate swings your mortgage should stay around the same level.

probably best, just hope I don't end up with some knobhead neighbour or summert

Your neighbour definitely will

Dunno, you'll ve paid 180k and got nothing show for it in 25 years if you pay say 600 a month in rent. 100k mortgage in 25 years you'll pay a similar amount back but be left with something work a few bob thats yours.
