December 29, 201114 yr What would you reckon is an acceptable commute, what's the longest you lot travel for? i used to have a 45 minute drive, which was not too bad but on a bad day it could take twice as long. When it snowed last year took nearly 5 hours ! the problem with a long drive to work are the days when roads are fucked and it takes forever.
December 29, 201114 yr By car is a lot easier than bus & train but an hour, tops. I deal with folk in London who would be happy with that length of commute though.
December 29, 201114 yr One of the wifes friends was told by the job centre that they expect you to attend interviews etc within a 1hr traveling distance.
December 29, 201114 yr One of the wifes friends was told by the job centre that they expect you to attend interviews etc within a 1hr traveling distance. Thats via public transport though. So, from my house on COR to my mam's in L/L would be about an hour on public transport, but only about 15 minutes in the car. Not very far really.

That happened to me last year, my boss when I got inn said...."You should have anticipated the snow....." "AND DONE WHAT, SET OF AT 3AM"
December 29, 201114 yr One of the wifes friends was told by the job centre that they expect you to attend interviews etc within a 1hr traveling distance. I think that's by car as a friend of mine was told to go for an interview in Warrington, for 13k. 13 fucking grand. Oh, he lives in Bolton, by the way. Edited December 29, 201114 yr by no balls
December 29, 201114 yr It massively depends on time of day too. If the interview was at 11.00 it would probably be a significantly shorter travel time than when you need to be there for 08.00.

December 29, 201114 yr Mate of mine did Bradford to Manchester for 6 years. Average of 1h 45min each way. No fun.

December 29, 201114 yr Depends on the salary, and expectations on working hours. Bolton to Altrincham, for decent salary (ish, for my low intelligence) and able to work flex as possible for the job = 1hour each way is fine Bolton to Altrincham, to have a me as a boss, on half my salary...NAAAAAH ! December 29, 201114 yr it all depends on what life you want out of work. i did frodsham to preston every day for 14 months which took on average about 2 hours 30 minutes a day. if you are doing long hours and then add this on you end up with no life at all.

Car all the way or car/tram?
December 29, 201114 yr That happened to me last year, my boss when I got inn said...."You should have anticipated the snow....." "AND DONE WHAT, SET OF AT 3AM" That would be unreasonable. There's some common ground though. Pisses me off when folk know there's roadworks or bad weather that will delay them but won't get out of bed earlier but still expect to be paid in full for sitting in traffic
December 29, 201114 yr Find a job where you work from home / field, best thing I ever did. Wake up most mornings at about 8.30am leave the house around 9.00am and am usually back home for 3.45pm. Have an admin day or 2 once a week where I dont leave my back room / office. Had a high pressure job that took its toll on me, all about work life balance now.

Pisses me off when folk know there's roadworks or bad weather that will delay them but won't get out of bed earlier but still expect to be paid in full for sitting in traffic Wife always wonders why I set off at 8 for a 20 minute journey into town and then sit drinking tea until start time at 9. She doesn't understand that it's more about not having the stess of being on the last minute were anything to happen. I've never been late for work in 26 years in the fire service.
December 29, 201114 yr Michael, try guaging a 30 odd mile journey on 3 motorways. It's not quite the same.
December 29, 201114 yr I've never been late for work in 26 years in the fire service. That's not what the nirvada said!!
December 29, 201114 yr Author So a hour is pretty much the maximum? Reason being is an opportunity in Chester may arise in the new year
What would you reckon is an acceptable commute, what's the longest you lot travel for?
