Quitting The Fags!

Has anyone here succeded in dumping the fags out their life?

Im on day 3, not caved yet, but absolutely gagging for one now. I couldn't even sleep last night.

I've no problem giving up, done it loads of times!

Edit: In seriousness, try NOT to think about it. The more you think about it the more you'll want one. It's a state of mind but I found you have to WANT TO give up and keep that frame of mind.

I have quit a few times for 6+months at a time. My problem is that they creep back in when im out on the booze.

Trying this year to quit all together, doing this by stopping off the booze as much as possible to begin with.

Other than that my mate found them tablets off the doctor worked a treat.

8th September 1992

went from 40-60 day to none.

Piece of Piss.

Nicotine cravings will die down in a day or two, stick with it. :good:

I have actually only given up twice. First time on NYE 1992 ,20-40 to none as per Gonk, and lasted 9 years. Was offered (and took) one whilst pissed up on a works freebie in Scotland and that was it 'til Halloween after the Liverpool match 14 months ago. Had intended to quit on NYE again but it just happened earlier. If you REALLY want to quit it's easy(er). A lot of people say it's difficult when out on the booze but it's a lot easier now pubs and clubs are smoke free, just don't go outside.

My missus quit 9 years ago, I quit 5 years ago, We both used to smoke 20-30 per day, living in a smoke free house is great.

Even though I thought it was a load of bollocks, I tried hypnotherapy.

Could have killed for first 2 days, and since then it has never bothered me in the slightest - and this is 7 or 8 years ago - I forget. Smoked up to 40 a day - started at 14. Tried several times to give up but eventually restarted.

Mate went 2 weeks later after smoking for almost 50 years - same for him - never had one since, and says it doesn't bother him. His wife went, and it didn't work. Paid for son, who has never smoked since - best ?80 I ever spent.

Guy used to be in Bolton, but understand he went to Australia.

Having said all that, still think it is bollocks :)

40 - 60 a day? Fuck mop.

Was that addiction or bordem? Or a bit of both :-)

work related. Contracts manger, Sat at a desk, every tme the phone went it would be some hairy arsed site agent on my case 'cos 'some other fucker somewhere hadn't done their job properly' (more often than not it came out that it was their fault). As soon as the phone went I'd pick the receiver up, wedge it on my shoulder , and light up. Quite often, there was still a previous cig burning away in the ash tray. I just decided enough was enough.

Oh aye, famouswanderer, you'll start coughing up all manner of shit for a week or two. stick with it, it's normal.

Did you ever spark one up when you still had one going in the ashtray? Not that I do, of course. :D

The young uns here don't believe I had an ashtray on my desk, nor that some of the machinists at a mill we had had one welded to their machines so they could earn a higher performance pay.

Not fags, but I'm on day 2 of my booze clampdown.

Not wanting to quit totally, I still want to be able to go and have some beers with my mates now and again, but the vast quantities consumed in the house has to stop.

Yesterday was no bother because I was still pissed/hungover after a great time on new Years day

I'll see how I get on over the next week.

My intentions are good though!

3 months ago i tried a starter pack of those so called E-cigs,i've not had a real cigarette since. They give you a little nicotine hit,but none of the 4000 cancer giving carcinogens found in a real cig.Plus they don't smell, and they are a quarter the cost of fags. My Doc is well pleased - and so am i.

Edit just to say that i was a committed smoker - 20-30 a day, every day

Spot on. Ive quit in the past by following that advice, still a social smoker though which im trying to stop.

Go see your doctor. Patches are available on prescription these days.

Tip: don't leave them on overnight. you end up hallucinating like fuck. Besides, you don't smoke while you're asleep, why would your body need nicotine?

Have you seen the cost of a prescription these days? More than a packet of fags!!

Spend a few days in the lung unit at Bolton General like I did last year. That's enough for anyone to cut out the fags!!

Gaffer tape a pair of mittens on and then put tape over your mouth.

Social smokers are cockends...all imo of course...each to their own
