Workers gave bosses nearly two billion hours of unpaid overtime last year, enough to create a million extra full-time jobs, according to the TUC.

The 1,968 million hours of overtime is worth ?29.2bn to the UK economy.

Many of you lot do any overtime unpaid?

In many cases it people didn't do that work, the company wouldn't get paid and there would be no jobs at all.

If only it were as simple as the TUC make out. Down tools, all out, commie twats.

I had my overtime bought off me with a 5K increase about 10 years ago.

I wouldn't like to tot my hours up. Laptop / mobile / work from home means I probably now end up 'out of pocket' but on saying that I'm posting on a forum in 'works time', and I know no-one at work will question it.

I've never had a job that pays overtime. I get paid a wage and do my job. Some weeks it's a 50hr week and some weeks it's a 30hr week. It also dawned on me the other week that I've not had a "lunch hour" for the last 15 years or so, I just take 10 minutes for a buttie and then back to it.

The more you do the less well your thought of.

If the gaffer sees your a mug he'll take you for one.

Work your contracted hours and any more they should reimburse you for.

If you work for nowt your shitting on your workmates because then they are expected to do the same.

The more you do the less well your thought of - that's just bollocks, and your boss is obviously a bit of a cunt.

Although surely it all depends on who your company is, what your profession is and what your boss is like. If I'm travelling a lot, then I don't claim for the time I'm in the air or stuck on a motorway, even if it means doing a 14/15 hour day on some occasions. Also, my boss is OK with me if I decide that I want to take a few extra days holiday here and there or finish early on some days as I have shopping to do or some other dull task that I don't want to waste my holidays on.

My boss is the same with all the employees, therefore nobody gets pissed off.

I guess it's different if you're in a job in a factory or a normal 9-5 job. I'm not though

I have a bloke on my team who starts palpitating if he's stuck ont phone past 4 oclock. He'd get the time back another day (itd only be about 7 minutes past anyway).

Out scheduled in over 35 hours is time and a half during the week and double at weekends. Not bad going.

Ive used it a bit to my benefit, working the odd saturday as OT is belting.

On the flip side its rare as rocking horse shit I get a full dinner or break. Ive recently started to try and get at least half hour dinner so that I can get away from me desk for a bit.

At the end of the day its not the hours you put in its how productive you are when your in. I know managers who are contracted 35 hours a week but end up working 9-8 for a week a month to catch up and thats purely down to the fact they are shit at time management and spend too much time fucking about with pointless admin or talking at the brew machine.

Like this- good management = good work environment

I've experienced both situations- some places you are 'used' because you show willing to go that bit further. Maybe a back handed complement I suppose.

Does my swede in though, when folks stop, even if a job only has 10 minutes work left- just sodding finish it
