The team Allardyce left was average at best - it had certainly peaked some time earlier, which is why he fucked off rather than attempting to rebuild. Sammy Lee wasn't a great manager, but he got saddled with no backroom staff (thanks BSA), declining players and the need to buy a squad for Europe. We never recovered from that with Megson and Coyle got saddled with Megson's contractual attempts to patch it up. Thanks JJ, you were a great player for us.
