Luke Mccormick

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere recently, but I couldn't find it.

Just been reading that Swindon (current family club of the year) are about to sign Luke McCormick following his release from prison. He's the guy that killed 2 kids while speeding & being over the drink-drive limit & put their dad in a wheelchair.

Personally I'd be gutted if Bolton signed him. People do make mistakes & I dare say that he relives that moment every day & will carry it round his neck for ther rest of his life. Some people might also say he's served his time (7yrs 4m) & has to earn a living & football is what he knows.

I'll tell you what though, if he'd killed my kids I'd at least expect the f*cker to keep his profile down & have some respect for the family he's left behind even if he has to accept earning a "normal" person's wage. I'd also be paying someone to have him put in a wheelchair.

Cue Gordon Taylor waffling on about the support he needs after serving his time.

  • It's not out of the ordinary to be released on licence half way through a sentence if you've behaved though, is it not?

I'd stop going. I read something from a Swindon fan who said part of the club had died.

I'll probably get lambasted for this, but he made a massive mistake, he drank over the limit/hangover and it ended with the worst scenario.

He'd get re-employed if it was any other business.

I agree, but having said that, I would not be overly impressed if Bolton signed him

Oh yes, neither would I. Just saying though.

I might be a hypocrite because I was disgusted when Markon King was signed, but I think my point is, I don't know if this lad is a nasty fucker or one who made a silly ill thought our decision.

i remember oldham fans were not to please when they were in for lee hughes after he was out after a similar case. they changed there tune when he was banging them in a few months later

If he puts brilliant performances in week in week out the swindon lot will soon forget about what he has done.

Have to agree with NB , done his time. Any other walk of life and no one would say anything.

the guy has served his time. he should be allowed to move on. yes it is terrible what happened but as pointed out in any other walk of life you are allowed to make a new life post prison

NB is right - he's served his time.

They'll be folk reading this who've been naughty boys and girls in the past. Should we deny them a living?

NB, Big E and others are right.

Time to move on and let the lad earn a living the only way he really knows how to.

Is this true tho ? If I had a criminal record of any kind Id never work in my chosen field again. I could get another job but as Im not qualified for anything else It wouldnt be on half what I earn now (Not that I make a bucketload).

Because of the length of his setence McCormick's conviction will never be 'spent' and will always have to be declared. Incidentally he was sentenced to 7 years and 4 months and will be released having served half of that (3 years 8 months) and will remain on probation for the remainder of his total sentence.

Ok its only Swindon but I bet Amanda & Phil Peak are delighted at having the potential to see his name in "lights" again.

Yes he would get re-employed in any other business but like it or not, football is not any other business and carries different social responsibilities to say a guy who works in the office.

No it's absolutely standard. Except for certain heinous offences like brothel-keeping.

We'll agree to disagree on any social comment regarding that, George.

Whats he supposed too do ? Never work again ??

Point here is the leniency of the sentance.

I'm sure theres lots of jobs he could do where his name wouldn't be in the paper/shown on sky sports. It may even make it easier for the parents of the twp little boys.

Anyone on here, who hand on heart, could say that if were their children, they would be happy for him to continue in a high profile career, then they are a better person than I.

nobody would be happy about it but sadly life goes on. for me the fact they were not dead would frustrate me but you would have to move on or it would kill you

Let us not forget former Wanderer and lifelong tosspot David Norris who thought it OK to show solidarity with his former team mate after scoring for Ipswich. His former team mate will always have an entry on his CV "jailed for causing the death of 2 children while driving pissed"

also haven't we had a full back this season who killed someone last summer?

Thats why its down to 'nuetrals' to decide the fate, and hand out Justice, and its why we live in very modern & successfull country society.

If people want to dish out their own justice, and make up rules as they go along, about what people can & cant do once they have served their time, then go and live in Pakistan, see how you enjoy that 'Freedom'.

We all agree to the system, generally living to these laws. Now as lenient as some of the punishments are at times, this lad made a mistake, and paid the price.

Pablo's right. I'm pretty sure whatever McCormick does, the parents will hate him. It's natural to feel that. Anyone touched, harmed or killed my loved ones, I'd want to kill them. I obviously wouldn't though.

As neutrals, we can't hate every criminal, or we'd be one set of vindictive angry fuckers, and not the sometime civilised society we are today.

I'd like to think that I would
