Train Fare Dodging

Last night I do as I normally do and get on the train at my local station for the short journey to reading.

It's a shitty station where the kiosk is always closed, so I jump on and as I need to return go and queue up at the reading ticket office to buy my ticket!!! - I always do this!

I then get accosted, told I should have used some machine on the station, which is a 'penalty Station' and told I'm getting a ?20 fine (for a ?3,40 journey) for failure to buy a ticket!!!! Bastards!!!!

You should have told them that's what you normally do, but today the machine was broken.

Get a monthly or weekly pass.

Always pretend I'm asleep me, I sometimes dribble for added effects :)

This pisses me off too.

You have a train to catch, at say, 9am, so you turn up at 8.55am only to find the queue for the ticket office/machine is more than 5 minutes long :unknw:

Common sense says get on the train and buy a ticket on board or at the other end, rather than wait an hour for the next train.

In my younger days, I once did a 45 minute train journey in the toilet.

Are we all aware of the loop hole at Manchester Victoria when getting off the train?

up the steps past the mcdonalds and down the steps past the barrier?

Platform 13 Manchester pic.. if your rushing for a train don't expect any help from the staff there. The most unpleasant lacking in common sense bunch of jobs worths I've ever had the displeasure to deal with. Twice they've made sure I missed the train as a power trip.. I hold them in the same contempt as the SS.

It used to be part and parcel of an away day.I think the longest journey made without paying was Brighton and back.

The ticketing system is so archaic it is almost unbelievable. They fundementally want us to pay some of the highest prices in the world for public transport, yet don't re-invest in the infrastructure. Automated gates, online ticket 'top-up', more non-staffed pay kiosks etc. It isn't fuckin' rocket science is it.

think ours is Birmingham managed it with Glasgow as well.

Used to get on trains using a platform ticket for fourpence(?)

Only ever done it in Munich getting the train to the airport. Schwarzfahrer I think they call it over there - black rider.

Love away days when there's lots of Bolton, everyone just barges past the cunts.

Also do you know that their fines are only legally enforceable via court order. If your ever caught, refuse to oblige to anything they say and never discose your name.

They can't hold you against your will, if they ever do its all make believe legal threats.

What about if you're collared by BTP?

I buy the scratch off travel card but "forget" to scratch the date off and play stupid if challenged. The best I have had is 6 return trips from Macclesfield to Manchester for a ?10 card before being shown how to scratch the date off.

fuck me!...heres me thinking i was a criminal mastermind having done that! :D

in my younger days, after going into bolton after every home game, with having to get back to blackpool with no money, fare dodging became my saturday night ritual....and more often than not it was the blubbering mess routine that got me through it.this of course wasnt an act!

my mate who lived in london for a while devised a method of getting down there and back for free, sometimes it would take about 12 hours to do so due to jumping off certain trains and catching others...but free all the same.id rather just pay and sup my tinnies in peace to be honest!

i once pulled the emergency cord becasue the doors didnt open at my stop once...

after the play off v watford in 99, ended up in Harrow A&E with a mate so was not able to return on the special we came down on.

got two tubes to Watford gap, train from Watford to piccadilly, train from piccadilly to Bolton and didn't pay a penny, not because we were criminal geniuses or anything, just never got asked anywhere.

Ironic thing is, after all that, the lad i was with, who was the reason i missed the special, kicked off with the taxi driver for charging ?3 from the station to Breightmet :D explaining to him that, in reality, we'd just got from London to Breightmet for ?1.50 each and to shut up, didn't compute with him

When I worked in Manc about 12 years ago there were no ticket checkers on platforms 13 and 14, think my record was about 3 months without being asked for, or having, a ticket due to packed rush hour trains and my annual travel cost was minimal!
