when i was last in bolton a few months ago, i was horrified at the disgrace the town centre was in. . the buildings are in such a bad state of repair they want knocking down.an utter tip. it was clear most of the better shops had moved away to nicer towns. this is what the council has done with its parking fines, rates, criminal mismanagement and all sorts of other council mess. i will never return there again.

I live approx, 7 miles away and rarely have a reason to go there, so if you live overseas, I can't blame you.

It's not the nicest town, never has been and never will be.

But that's the biggest load of drivel I've read in the last 24 hours.

Fucking hell Alf - have a walk along Bradshawgate - it's a total disgrace, what 'overseas' wrote about flattening the place is a bit of bollocks, there's some cracking buildings - it's the businesses in them, the council and the skiprats and pisscan glassbacks loitering about the place that are the problem.

It really looked like we were getting somewhere around 1997/98 - lots of pubs, eateries, stuff going on - something for everyone. Now? Desolate - I dread to think what it's like Friday or Saturday nights.

To be fair, there's a hell of a lot of people from overseas here now. They must think it's the mutts nuts.

ps. It's a shit hole but there are still some great buildings here.

Marsden House could be our Number 1. Desolate. (disregarding that it's on Marsden Road). When the new interchange opens it'll have a dual effect - all the old dears who use the Market and Morrisons won't bother coming into town anymore, and ease of access out of Bolton - to places less shitty; Manchester, Middlebrook/Horwich and Bury. Last out (probably Bolton Council) should sweep up and switch off the lights...

I'm pretty sure most of Bolton Council's budget goes to spongers, pisspots, immigrants and the terminally boneidle every year. (Frank?)

What's left is about thruppence to go on improvements for everything including the town centre. So I appreciate they are pushing coins round the palms of their hands when it comes to it.

That said, they could box a bit clever.

As we all know, it's a piece of piss to get to Manchester/Trafford centre/Horwich/Even fucking Wiggin, which have better shops. However, throwing all the traffic wardens in the nearest combine harvester would be the first thing to do. Free parking would make a HUGE difference.

They should then offer free/cheap leaseholds to the big names and get something other than fucking onesies and £3.00 pairs of shoes in the windows. Restrict the number of bookies and poundshops, jetwash everything - including most of the pavement gazing peasants clogging up the square - and advertise.

It'd be a long term investment and businesses would come back.

However, I know they're all far too busy trying to flog the old Bolton College site to anyone they can to bother actually doing some real work.

Cunts.

That's the test plan prior to knocking down the rest of the town.......if they can flog it!

It would appear Bolton Council are now trying to rip the heart out of HTown centre. They are proposing no stopping where people have been able to park previously, yet there are only 2 small car parks.

Just pedestrianise the place, then it can be as successful as Bolton town centre, lads.

Frank, any news on why this is seen as a good idea?

Don't forget the '3hr limit, no return SAME DAY' on the car parks.

Edit: If the wardens are so short of revenue send 'em up to Rivi & Blackrod at 3:15, there's shitloads of 4x4's and audi's on the new double yellows.

ps. Why do secondary school age kids have to be dropped off and picked up as close to the gates as possible?

How come the transit van with the camera's on top never goes past the schools at picking up time, I got done posting a letter and as stated in a previous post it is always outside Bolton train station at peak times.

Because they're shipping their kind in from Bolton as the Audi & 4x4 drivers don't want their children educated at a borstal.

On a Friday and Saturday night I'd say our town centre isn't dissimilar to most town centres.

The problem with it is during the daytime. I may be wrong here with comparisons to other town centres but our 'town centre' seems to cover a pretty huge area. Think about from the where the BMW garage is/was all the way over to St George's Rd - that's a fair old way.

Is that maybe too big an area to sustain so many businesses in this current age where there are so many 'out of town' shopping alternatives?

theres a video of the town centre on one of our current threads

lots of cars knocking about

different times and all that, but the place just looked busier

and plenty folk knocking about even at the wheatsheaf end of newport st

if you see anybody there these days, theyre asleep on the floor

Why stop at Asda, mate?

You could carry on for miles in that direction.
