Not saying he's not a good choice, I just don't know.....you say he can wheel and deal....do we have evidence of this? Finances are certainly tight as anywhere at Pompey, but how do we know he has "an eye for a player"?

 

As I said, I'm not saying he doesn't, but it smacks of a journey even more into the unknown

 

I'm guessing because he's English and rugged looking though, that's ok whereas a Norwegian that's won everything as a player is style not substance??

Any appointment will be a gamble of some kind. That's the nature of the job. But ....

 

Jimmy Phillips and Sammy Lee would be just a re-run of a path we've tried (and failed) with before.

 

Appleton is a complete unknown and I'd be disappointed & worried by his appointment; but he could be successful, who knows.

 

OGS, Di Canio, Mellon, Poyet would be exciting but would make me nervous.

 

Freedman, Robinson, Hill - probably make me a bit less nervous, but probably a bit less excited too.

 

Davies, McCarthy, Curbs - realtively safe (as far as anyone can tell), not particularly inspiring (but maybe that's a luxury we can't afford).

 

Redknapp & Hierro very unlikely; and Howe's just returned to Bournemouth.

 

BSA - hmm; can things ever work again the 2nd time around ?

 

The rest in that list would give me varying degress of apoplexy.

I don't necessarily think its a bad thing if they care extra. I can't see why he could be both passionate and a good manager. I do agree the good manager bit is most important though!

If we can't get Mick McCarthy, the one I've voted for, Keith Hill would be my next choice. Seems to tick many boxes, performed miracles at Rochdale. Suspect having paid out Coyle's compo we've not much money in the bank to prise him away from Barnsley.

What about Rafa Benitez with Sammy Lee as his assistant - probably can't afford him but they would make a difference with our squad's potential.
