I was an uber-shit fan on Saturday, but, on my way to my long previously arranged engagement I nipped into my local to check on the score/watch ten minutes while waiting for the taxi...

 

West Ham/City on every screen, with hardly anyone watching - as I was leaving, others smoking outside were muttering grievances amongst themselves, I piped up and told the landlord (a Mackem, I think) it was unacceptable. All he could do was look shamefaced and mumble some horseshit about orders from above - telling me to ring the brewery area manager or some other bollocks.

 

This is a pub that was in earshot of Burnden. Now I know a few will be of the opinion that it should be irrelevant, folk should be at The Reebok etc. but, I'd like to know everyone's opinions on this...

Suppose the landlord has to look after his punters and give em what they want !! Being an ex landlord in gt harwood all I could do was show blackburn games ,no choice really if you wanna make a bob or two ! Also nobody wants to watch championship games on the foreign channels !!

Its all about making money ! Unfortunately !

In an ideal world, everyone from Bolton would rather watch Bolton... but we don't live in an ideal world.

 

Far more of our inhabitants would rather watch one of the 'big' teams.

 

Of course, all real fans should be at a game, and by that I mean stay for the full 90 mins, not do one and go to the pub at half time.

ALL man u / liverpool / man city 'fans' from Bolton should be taken outside & shot ................there speaks the voice of reason

I've already made the dislaimer of being a shit fan - anyway I'm not making excuses for prioritising putting bread on the table over The Whites (it wasn't a 'social' engagement).

 

I'll take it everyone who doesn't go, for whatever reason, should be precluded from taking any interest whatsover in their hometown club? Then folk get castigated as armchair munchen or city...Quite a few who don't bother any more 'served their time' in the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s and have lately stopped going.

Well you just listed three reasons, answering your own question. I didn't intend this to be a 'shit fan', 'how come you didn't go?' thread...

 

I presume there are more people in Bolton, who want to see the Wanderers do well, than the capacity of The Reebok. The question was, should a pub in the borough show another game when Bolton are playing, if you think that's acceptable - fair enough. I wouldn't have included the 'yes', 'depends' and 'fuck 'em' options in the vote if I wasn't curious of folk's opinion. I didn't want a whole 'I'm a betterer fan than you...' waffle included.

 

And I'm presuming a greater proportion of Boltonians, if polled, would claim to 'support' Bolton. In as much as the plastic munich and city 'support' their team (from the armchair or the pub).

the point is most 'armchair ' Bolton fans are quite happy to play the munich card ........but don't seem to want to go & watch their own team

It's not a question of 'why should folk watch a home game in the pub?' it's a question of should they show a fucking City game? I'd have no problem with it if we weren't playing, where were all these City fans when they were shite in the recent past anyhow?

 

If the fucking Come Dancing or X-Factor was on the telly in the pub I wouldn't give a shit, but another team's match? I'm not arsed about the armchairs being deprived of the match - it's the principle.

I think its a sad state of affairs because Bolton is a football town as such. Shame its not a Bolton Wanderers town. Even though the split is much better than it used to be.

On the question posed you are right , it should'nt even be up for discussion but regrettably we live in th X factor age & most ordinary joes dont show much

 

loyalty to there own ..........& it not just Bolton , I' m working in another part of the country that has a championship side , but the most popular football
