January 17, 201313 yr A Youth Cup semi final in 1956 is our best effort.Drew away at Man Utd and lost the return at Burnden.Since then there was a quarter final in the early 70s and one a few seasons ago (the Aaron Mooy, Obadeyi generation) Was that the year Chesterfield reached the final? (with G Banks in goal)
January 17, 201313 yr Author Closed doors! puh!!! Big time nobs! Which reminds me... United should have got off the coach on the academy car park and instead refused to get off until the coach reversed down the narrrow drive to the changing room entrance! Bastards!!! God im interesting !!!! Edited January 17, 201313 yr by Gumbo

If im wrong about this please correct me as my memory isnt all that good and i cant be arsed looking anything up.
January 17, 201313 yr I don't know the teams but I think you are right about Bobby Charlton.Wilf McGuiness mentioned playing for them in the match. The crowd was 34,000.
January 17, 201313 yr We are starting from such a low threshold that one player per season meeting the standard would be a huge bonus. I'm getting carried away by these kids, especially Zac Clough. Wishful thinking but I hope we have half a team from the ranks in a couple of years time.
January 17, 201313 yr The question i have a bwfc fan is why very few youth players have had opportunities to get in the first team. Can't just because they aren't good enough more to do with the managers not risking the chance of relegation from Prem so stick with more experienced players. Maybe we're now in the Championship we can take some risks as well as the fact we have no money. I just hope DF gives youth a chance.

January 18, 201313 yr which teams are these kids who were never given a chance by us, now playing for? Stoke.
January 18, 201313 yr Kids never got the chance because our seasons were always do or die. We where either fighting for our lives trying to stay up or fighting to secure Uefa cup (or Cl...). Neither situation suitable for chucking in kids. Contrary to general opinion we've also had quite large squads. especially during the big Sam and megson days when we were playing 2nd teams in cup matches but still putting out 'reasonably' experienced teams. Depending on how this season pans out we may have a chance to chuck in a few kids because the pressure may be off. However if we have a chance of playoffs I doubt that will happen and once again the cycle will begin. If we kept the current squad we'd have more than enough players to cope with injuries and suspensions without even thinking of playing a kid

Bebe has just signed and looks better than him already. I saw them draw 2-2 with Porto in October. Tope scored in the cup against Sporting last week and actually looks ok on the left wing, but he'll be gone in the summer.

In a team which has performed well all season. It is next season that some of this team should be given further opportunities.

They will M, Chris Lester is testament to that, he has been on the bench for both of the Sunderland games and I know he is rated by DF so expect him to start to make an impression probably nex season now. I saw his goal at Reading and it was really well taken and showed bags of composure Plus he has the pace to beat his full back on the outside and center from the by-line. Something that we have needed for quite a while. BTW, Woodland is a great kicker of a football.

January 19, 201313 yr http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/wanderers/wanderersnews/10172622._/? good few quotes from freedman in this about our youth set up, for some reason this bit made me laugh:- “We have talked about the Academy – and I am hearing it is a wonderful Academy. But we haven’t got anyone in the team so it can’t really be that wonderful!” he said. he's got a point though.
January 19, 201313 yr I don't know who claims it's wonderful. It's got a shocking record. Absolutely terrible. We can hardly claim we've got great coaches either. Yes I'm sure sammy lee is top draw but beyond him it's ex players plus a fans liaison? How many clubs have the jolly ex fan as 2nd in line running the u18's who 5 years ago was getting pi55ed with fans in Lisbon. That being said, I dread to think of the players we've lost to united et al who showed promise at a young age. We even lost Bartley to arsenal. But there's no evidence that if they stayed they'd have a chance here anyways. We'd sooner spend 300k or get a loan in that give a young striker a chance.
January 19, 201313 yr Problem being, unless you win every game, some cuntshoveller on here will be calling for their head. So playing kids isn't happening.
