If he stays at this level Rafa will be no 1 at some point this year, and it could be as early as the week following Wimbledon. I think Rafa would have to win the Italian, French and reach the Wimbledon quarters for that to happen barring Muzza winning in SW19

That's the 5th most prestigious tournament in terms of ranking points. The winner gets 1,500 points compared to 2,000 for winning one of the 4 slams and 1,000 for winning one of the Masters tournaments such as the Italian taking place now.

Murray had a great French (RU), Queens (W) and Wimbledon(W) last year and will be defending 3,700 points from those 3 tournaments compared to Rafa's 90 points so despite Muzza being 5,000 points ahead of Rafa it could change quickly.

He had an even better October last year winning 4 tournaments in a row for 3,000 points, that is more likely when he'll lose top spot.

The aim was to get to number 1. He's been a bit unlucky with injury since then. But I don't think it matters much how long he stays there. He was never going to be able to dominate like Roger and Novak did at their peak. Being able to say you've won multiple slams, gold medals and been world number 1 isn't bad. And I think he will win another slam title before he's done.

He's doing better than Konta did. She only dropped 7 points in the first set, but managed to lose.

Unusual for the loser to win most games (and probably points, too).

He was in a hurry to beat the expected storm (which I think passed by in the city centre).

At 6-0, 5-0, he appeared to give his opponent the first 2 points to give him the opportunity to avoid total humiliation. And his turn round time in the final few service games was about twice his normal speed.

Looks like he's found his form again.

 

Going to be a 50/50 against Wawrinka but he'll be the underdog against Nadal if he meets him in the final.

The world no 1 is perhaps surprisingly the 4th favourite for the tournament even behind Thiem who has to face Nadal in the semi.

Murray was trailing Nishikori until the umpire riled him into action in the second set.

Thiem began by matching Djokovic, then got clearly on top, and finally humiliated him.

Stan's playing very well, and the further he gets in a tournament, the better he plays. Wouldn't say it's a foregone conclusion that Nadal beats Thiem either - Thiem's the only person who's beaten Nadal on clay this year.

I am travelling up from Southampton was thinking of driving part way then getting the Tube in, will arrange it so go to Southfields. Thanks. 

Southfields on the way in, Wimbledon on the way back. Though if you're driving, the park & ride will take you straight to the grounds & eliminate that half mile walk at both ends of the day.
