it'll make going into work tomorrow so much more pleasant than normal. had a bet with a driver who's a Leicester fan that we'd finish higher than them. He doubled the ante after tuesday saying if ''you're higher than us by weekend i'll pay out then''......silly old boy,bet he feels like Fred Done now.. Easy money.

Watford have won 11 away from home and they need 3 points Friday night to put pressure on Hull so that's a big plus for us, would prefer to play Hull if we did get to the play offs.

I take each match and assess chances out of 10 for each outcome, always allowing at least one for each outcome.

Thus a 'stonewall' certainty would be 8-1-1.

So, for example, I've got Cardiff v Bolton as 4-3-3 and Bolton v Blackpool as 6-3-1.

With 3 games to go it was like doing the predictor 1000 times over except than I didn't need to work out all the details.

Just checked league tables for last 11 years and the 6th place team has ended up on 73-75 pts most years, only twice did a team finish on 70 points in a play-off spot.

 

So from those stats we do need a result in Cardiff to get us to 70 minimum!!

I've said previously that 69 has never qualified in the 24 seasons of 24 clubs in the second tier.

I also said, a couple of months ago that we might make it with 69 this year.

I'd be happier with 72 or 70, but there is a very realistic chance that 69 will be enough.

 

No club with more than 52 points has ever been relegated. Bristol City are already down, but Barnsley, Peterborough and Wolves all have 51 with 2 games left, so I'm sure they don't (now) regard 53 as safety.

By next Saturday evening it could be:

Bristol City 44;

Barnsley, Wolves, Peterborough, Blackburn and Huddersfield 54;

Sheff Wed, Blackpool and Burnley 55.

That would carry interest into the final day!

Firstly, it is back in our hands - 2 wins is definitely top 6.

 

72 points (2 wins): 15% fourth place; 52% fifth place; 33% sixth place.

 

70 points (1 win, 1 draw): 0.5% fourth place; 20% fifth place; 73.5% sixth place; 6% miss out.

 

69 points (1 win, 1 loss): 5% fifth place; 68% sixth place; 27% miss out.

 

68 points (2 draws): 0.5% fifth place; 43.5% sixth place; 56% miss out.

 

67 points (1 draw, 1 loss): 15% sixth place; 85% missout.

 

66 points (2 losses): definitely miss out.
