Because it's downhill, silly.

We are doing the one organised by Deloitte ride across Britain and that is the route they have chosen this year. They did it the other way around last few years and the first 2 days just killed every one so they have put the 2 hardest days at the end this Ride.

I have my dad's cycling diary for 1932.

7620 miles (compared with 8180 in 1931).

Apart from one or two evening trips Warrington to Leigh and back it's all weekend and Bank Holiday stuff.

It compares with what I do each year now - driving.

JoG is one of the most depressing places on the planet. Flat, windswept and bleak.

A breeding ground for serial killers. Reminds me of Lincolnshire.

And this is someone who likes Scotland too.

Off to Lands End later this month, apparently that's a bit shit too mind.

Some lovely bits in between I'll grant you

Question for cyclists

Why don't you just fuck off from the roads you arrogant cuntsticks??

Traffic lights etc apply to you too

And if you ride side by side expect a big fuck off beep

They rank alongside drivers of stuff like Porsche Boxsters or Audi TT's as having completely unfounded transport based superiority complexes

Happy pedalling

At last sense on this thread

I've posted this before, and a lot of you would be aware of this already, but for those who aren't.

This is a good tool for anyone who goes running or cycling* - it's based on Google Maps but you can 'draw' your route; it shows the distance covered, you can save the route you've done (gives you a URL specific to the route), draw a 'there and back' route automatically, you can also draw routes 'off-road'.

It needs a bit of playing about with (ooer!) to get used to it, but once you are it's a pretty useful thing in my opinion.

Anyway - there's a bit on the left hand menu 'Elevation' which you can click (off, small, large.) This shows a graph of the altitude of the route in metres. Especially useful for identifying hills in areas you're not familiar with.

It's starts off with a map of the World, but to get to the area you want it's just enter destination like with Google Maps.

* Edit: Or swimming too it seems, I just 'jumped' to a new search without clearing my last - it worked out a route from Belmont to the top of Tenerife (Mount Teide) - 2274 miles, including a brisking swim down the Atlantic.
