What's The Worst Job You've Ever Had/done

Mines got to be working for Cambrian Soft Drinks as soon as I left school, sticking labels by hand onto Soda Syphons then putting them into wooden crates and lifting onto a conveyor belt. 7.30am to 5.15pm for £25 YTS wage. Hated it

Worked at Toymaster in bury, was the most soul destroying place to work.

Nigh on all the people who worked there were miserable as sin.

Having worked at The Entertainer in Coventry where folk liked working in a toy shop and made it a fun place to shop and work it was weird to me.

Everyone was on less than national minimum wage as the franchisee knew his court payout was less than the savings he makes paying so low.

I lasted about 3 months in total. a month to realise how shit it was, a month looking for another job, and a month waiting to start the next place.

No wonder its shut now.

some paper factory in Horwich

broke every health and safety rule going

was a summer job after leaving school to earn some cash before starting college

pay was less than £1 an hour (in 1993)

got sacked at 10.30 on first day

got job back at 10.45

walked out at 9.30 on 3rd day

Labouring for a builder, I'm not built for barrowing and heavy lifting

Hated it

Selling gas and electric. I didn't know there was that many hours in a day to work. Thankfully I got another job and left after 4 weeks. Appco group.

I did 30 hours a week doing the same for British Gas, hated it but the wages were fantastic

worked as a YTS at Bolton Evening News. in the accounts department, only 2 lads, listening to women talking bullshit and eating cream cakes all day. I didn't last long, plus it didn't help being late after being arrested at the Notts County Milk Cup debacle

Did you ever look at a corpses tit?

Did you ever look at a corpses tit?

Look? Who on here would actually be shocked if he said he's had a MAUL?

Toss up between petrol station attendant and working permanent 3 x 12 hour nights a week powder coating marine cable metal trunking in a PVC fluidised bath. We had to handle unweildy trunking that had been pre heated to 500C. I still have some scars from the burns.

Both jobs were in my teens

Stacking shelves from 7am to 7pm, hard work. Just seen a lad I worked with, still at it 25 years later.

Argos in manc arndale or cleaning at warbies on a Saturday. Both grim.

Burnden park asda at a 17 year old working on the photo developing counter. Fucking hated the place and the people in it, got sacked for developing my own photos and not paying. Bad girl for life...

CSA hands down, hell hole of a place to work, and where I met BigSharps.

I also did the Warbies cleaning thing on a Saturday morning. They give you 5 hours to clean a item of equipment that you could clean in 30-45 minutes. Bored to tears and spent half of my time playing on my phone in the bogs.

Edit : DRL also gets an honourable mention, did 3 months there as Sales manager. Its currently lauding itself as the UK's 4th best employers. Things must have changed as when I was there every fucker hated it.

Depends how you cleaned it. I got ocd after cleaning the mixer in so much detail for 3 years.

no pal even i like them with a pulse

Had some real cracking jobs when I worked at a landfill / stone recycling yard

I think the worst one was grading a tonne of 4mm stone from 4mm/6mm mixed by hand with a stone seive

it took 3 days....and pissed down every second

at the end of it the customer took one look at it and decided that wasn't what he wanted after all.

and all because my manager was too fuckin tight to hire a machine

Another one which I had to do regularly was to litter pick which on a decent day was actually not bad but it was rarely decent. (it might soud ridiculous litter picking a landfill, but the M6 was on one side and the main West Coast railway on the other and blowing litter is dangerous)

The main part of my job was weighbridge admin which I loved though... so had to take the rough with the smooth

edit... I forgot about the 2 days I spent wading through household waste picking recyclables out by hand when a machine broke

I was there briefly BB in '84. got arrested at the 6-1 Notts County game, went in late and resigned.

others i remember were Nicola Strutt from up Breightmet,an old italian guy who did the franking etc think he was called Tony Rossi,Lynn Hope think she came from Mexborough,Elaine on reception plus all the canteen staff as i generally hid in there. oh and Gordon Sharrock

I hated working in an office,i'm a Wanderer and need to mooch

Another vote for Saturday cleaning at Warbies. Shooting crumbs on the conveyor belts - fucking awful! Paid better than most Saturday jobs at the time though. Also shelf stacking at Morrisons and pot washing at the Last Drop.

When I was there I'd of done Nora, tidy lady in charge of credit control

Mortgage adviser in West Cumbria.
