October 27, 201312 yr Both codes are tough but I could still play union now because the game is so slow and cumbersome are we talking about a maul on the park? i'm not sure what that has to do with owt when we're comparing union and league in a thread about 'the world cup' i'd love to believe league is better than union but i just can't
October 27, 201312 yr So top class rugby union is slow......aye alreet.. I could play football rugby union or league if the game was being played by a load of fat slow near fifty year olds....could I play professionally.? No...well maybe I could get a game for us but then at the min me mam would at least be a sub and she's been drawing a pension for five years,...
October 27, 201312 yr After the who's the best fan debate, the union v league thing must be the most discussed topic on here.

In comparison to top flight league it is slower than treacle.
October 28, 201312 yr Maybe it is a little slower having said that in league you don't need to think much other than run into the other bloke and hope you weigh more than him , union has more options ,and well is a better game.
October 28, 201312 yr You telling me the fat 20 odd stone Tongan lad playing union for England doesn't fall head first into that catagory? He's just a huge bowling ball. You wouldn't need to worry about his size, you just step off either foot and he'd be flapping about in thin air. Piss easy to tackle too. We sussed out that fat lads were no use in league years ago. Too big too slow. But awesome for union. When union forwards can run catch and pass at the same time, and then tackle retreat tackle, I'll listen. But they can't because they're too big and have never needed to catch or pass.
October 28, 201312 yr I saw some of Ospreys v Dragons on Friday. The commentator explained that the (11st 6lb) fly-half was able to shrug off the would-be tackler because he was a prop forward!

You will struggle to did any game as fast tough intense and brutal as that New Zealand v somoa game last night. And they can all pass and catch
October 28, 201312 yr Quite a lot have sold out, but rugby league being rugby league decided to sell the rights to prem sports for tuppence instead of giving it free to terrestrial so it'll be watched by about 68 people after the Gaelic football but before the Peruvian netball championships. The game is the best in the world. Run by amateurs.
October 28, 201312 yr I don think we will ever stop the argument of league over union...so we shall have to agree I'm right and call it a day shall we?
October 28, 201312 yr Being wrong is not something I'm familiar with so you'll have to tell me what it feels like.
October 28, 201312 yr I was wrong once,23 June 1976, but on that occasion it was Someone else's fault I was wrong ,there haas been no reoccurrence since then Edited October 28, 201312 yr by fellman

Hence I pretty much ignore the game I used to watch quite a lot of RL in the days of Ray French on Grandstand, when Bolton were away. His pronunciation of Emosi Koloto used to amuse too
October 28, 201312 yr The whole thing looks fucked to me, hold the first games in another country which has little or no league heritage. Said game is attended by 45,000 people all from round here. Meanwhile the NFL game I watched on C4 was sold out, they are talking of having 3 games here next year. 'mon the Fujis.

Having been at the game on Saturday, I'd say the majority sat around us were actually southern RL fans and Taffs. Pleasantly surprised in that regard. Off to Spotland tonight, should be another belter.

The competition isn't just for England, games are being held in Wales, France, and Ireland too. Opening ceremony in Cardiff, double header semis at Wembley, Final at Old Trafford. Spread the love, so to speak. NFL create an 'event'; the game is boring as shit to me, but they create a superb event all the same. Just as well considering a one hour game can last a fortnight. Premier league football and F1 do the same - tell the world a product is must see must do and eventually they believe it regardless. Six Nations and Wimbledon are the same. Average product + amazing marketing x massive media interest = must see annual event. thats where it is even resorted to pressing the red button last night so what have bbc got? The England games. Laughable I know. See above.
October 28, 201312 yr it does sound very short sighted i know bbc have long been biased towards the southern code why don't sky want it? Edited October 28, 201312 yr by Casino
October 28, 201312 yr They were outbid by a joint BBC/Premier Sports deal. Which is fine. If the BBC bothered fucking showing it. That NZ Samoa game last night was fucking brutal, one of the best games I have seen in a long time. But apart from the full house at Warrington, it was watched by myself and a welder from Halifax. Highlights might be on iPlayer sometime next Friday.
