Just tucking into a mug of black peas. Stink to high heaven but I bleeding love them! Get called a dirty bastard at work when people have never tried them. Weirdos.

Hollands Pies are based in Baxenden. The factory is fucking grim.

They were Catholic? Well I never. Very good pies, a Saturday lunch staple growing up.

indeed, hence the lack of meat in the pies of a Friday, then they went all commercial and sold out sometime in the late 70s I think and sold meat :)

Hollands Pies are based in Baxenden, which is fucking grim.

Fuck me

It's like a food forum for prisoners of war this.

Now that made me chuckle a lot

Get back to your roots, you might enjoy it.

My mrs is a top cook, but she's still from the north east so at least once a week it crap food ahoy. One cannot live on Haddock mornay alone.

Bacon, cabbage, crispy sliced potatoes and onions will be the order of the day in the next few weeks on the menu for me.

I've got a bag of spuds and a few onions and carrots gagging to become lobby here. Anybody passing later this week is welcome to partake

You dirty bastard!

Nope,never heard of butter pie.

I had a butter pie once.  It was probably from reading a recommendation on here.

If ever there was a pauper food then this was it.  It can only be described as a mashed potato pie

A fucking mashed potato pie!

I do wonder what is going on when folk rave on about lobby, black peas and butter pies. Spider is correct, it's food for paupers. Don't get me wrong, it has it's place every once in a while, but lets not pretend its "food of the gods" - it is the sort of shit that you would expect people in concentration camps to have served up to them

I quite like stews, hot pots and casseroles.  They are also the only thing I can make ... and if I can make them anyone can.

I'm quite good at mashed potatoes too, therefore reckon I could make a decent butter pie.  I won't though, because why the fuck would I ever want to make a mashed potato pie.

I remember flying the nest and moving to Guernsey about 6/7 years ago now (fuck me)

proper naive and no idea of anything outside of Manchester

Lived with 5 other lads. Cheltenhan/London/Derby/Wycombe/Leicester

I made a big pan of lobby (corn beef not steak) after a few weeks and offered it the rest.

bare in mind, you can imagine the muck we were all eating normally, you'd think it'd be ok

I was absolutely abused (even though they thought it was nice) for being a complete and utter northern peasant.

ridiculed beyond belief

Behave, Pablo is a finely tuned athlete.....it's carefully thought out. He's loading up on carbs in preparation for tonights match

Not a fan of black peas - reminds me of pikeys. This time of year, I like the soups you can make from the veggies which are best at this time - pumpkin, butternut squash etc.

BOOOM.......but I had completely forgot about tonights game.....maybe the pint of milk with Barms, is not a good idea !!!

Sadly, it's not the kids, it's the ones who are considerably older.

Hear, hear! :)

Eating a certain foodstuff doesn't suddenly make one f*cking cultured, being cultured makes one cultured. Everywhere the World over, wherever there's working people there's some form of 'slop' being served up.

How southerners - more accurately, Londoners, can dismiss potato 'ash/lobby yet lap up pie an mash and liquor, well, it's blatant hypocrisy.

I usually find the worst food snobs are the ones who were raised on, and used to thoroughly enjoy; Orange Warbies, Vesta Curries, Pot Noodles, Dairylea Triangles, Salt And Vinegar crisp butties, Heinz Salad Cream, Micro-Chips etc.

They now know better they get all haughty and refined and doth protest too much. :)

Protein mate.

Will aid your recovery.

Why don't you neck a gram of whizz before tonight's game anyway?

Oh right, OK, probably worth a do then.

I'll struggle to find one in West Yorkshire mind, you can't even get steak puddings! And their idea of pie and peas is hot pork pie, mushy peas, all covered in mint sauce..

Fucking barbarians

Fucking barbarians

They have Yorkshire puddings as a starter before a roast dinner!

I.e.....not on the fucking roast dinner!

That's like having a plate of bacon before a full English.

Mind you they also spend all day beating their wives and ferret smuggling.
