I've got a cousin who left SA because of how violent it is, I understand that. I just don't know why all the rest don't just up sticks and leave the locals to it

The world won't take in the white South Africans so most are stuck there

If a picture can say a thousand words...

Doesn't it make you all fuzzy and warm inside, aren't we (white folk) good these days?

I'm glad my sister bought that Specials single all those years ago, kind of makes it all worthwhile...

Edited by Youri McAnespie

My mate did, back to Guimaraes. Last time I saw him he was in bits as his sister, who stayed, had just been robbed and was lucky to be alive.

He was a Mandela fan in that when apartheid fell, there could (and maybe should) have been white blood on the streets.

Why? When slavery was abolished in the USA did the emancipated form bands and roam around slaying their former oppressor? In the Soviet bloc after the fall of Communism were all the Stasi and state informers rounded up and stung from the nearest lampposts?

Why, after the dismantling of Apartheid would the masses see this as a green light to get machete happy on the whites? It's a bit of a racist assumption that, the theory of the bloodthirsty, temperamental, no sense of reconciliation/vengeful black african...

Aye, racist. More seeing it through my own eyes. Fuck reconciliation.

Never ceases to amaze me how Bolty has an in depth understanding of so many countries, I struggle to keep up here!

However, do Zanu PF need a manifesto when they fix the elections as anyone who votes MDC is shot?

I was at a match today and they had a "minutes applause", kept mine in my pockets, just because what the fuck does it have to do with a football match. One of my mates commented,"We'll be doing the same for Gerry Adams then".

Got a chuckle out of all the shouts of 'come on you white men!' after the applause at the Reebok.

Thing is somebody who means a lot to BWFC fans like Dave Higson get/got fuck all, but this mon and others do. Utter bollocks.

Didn't hear ANewman's minute's boo

Great point, But being honest if bwfc bucked the trend and did not do one today they would have been castigated.

Good point back but I like the old Millwall chat, "we don't care".

Thought Dave got his respects paid, twas a long while ago tbf.

don't shoot the messenger, but, was told he actually passed away a few months ago when he was in hospital, announcement was delayed to plan the infrastructure in the village where he is to be burried

Just family connections (and many friends including my PA who is Rhodesian). There are also fucking thousands of Jaapies in Perth so it is impossible to avoid anything related to the RSA here.

You make a fair point about Zanu PF and their election rigging activities. Good job the ANC wouldn't consider massacring thousands of their opponents?

Zimbabwe is right next door to the country in question, just as Wigan is to Leigh, so hardly irrelevant. No doubt Maggie will be wearing a black glove and ANC colours in tribute. Maybe even giving the clenched fist salute of Umkonto E Sizwe?

That black gloved hand has blood on it but, let's all feign sorrow for the great mans passing and ignore the truth eh?

Didn't you say earlier that you were on the fence?

I gave Mandela some praise about the way he was able to keep things civil after he took power. Clearly made an effort to hold out the olive branch to white South Africa in donning the Springbok jersey. On this alone, far wiser than brother Mugabe who prefers a sort of 'ethnic cleansing' of whites. Maybe he's too thick to realise that his own people haven't the wherewithal to run huge farms and businesses efficiently. Clearly Mandela knew the score. This balances the ledger a little as far as his past (and numerous) crimes are concerned.

I won't be joining in the feigned grief stakes however. I think you may have already worked that out.

I've no doubt most of what he did was good. I'd go so far to say he was 90% good. But he's got blood on his hands. Lots of it.

It seems that's acceptable if its for something you believe in.

So with that I'm off to Wiggin Council to slay the fucking lot of them; burn their homes down and rape their kids. Leyth shall have its own Council, and I shall look after my people.

When I die, I trust the world will think I am a fucking saint too.

I really don't think anyone is seriously claiming that the fatalities were fine because the people who afflicted them believed in their cause. Obviously that would be ridiculous and would give approval to anyone who kills anyone anywhere. And there is too much unquestioning acceptance of him as a saint figure.

But the truth is as always inbetween and for a man born into a country that automatically made him a second class citizen along with the rest of the majority, who campaigned exclusively non violently for a decade before deciding nothing would change without force and who single handedly prevented civil war after his release, who faced down a lot of the ANC who wanted to be very harsh on white South Africa after apartheid fell, his negatives seem less severe. The worst of the violence was during his imprisonment and the civilian deaths when he was allowed a visit a month and one letter every six months. It is daft to suggest that he is to blame for those deaths. And in broad terms the ANC killed hardly anybody, much fewer than say the IRA who everyone likes making the pointless comparison with. The obvious point to note is that any black South African would have given a bollock to grow up a Northern Irish Catholic.

The worst of the violence was during his imprisonment and the civilian deaths when he was allowed a visit a month and one letter every six months.

...yet some people would suggest that when imprisoned he was living a life of luxury in a mansion and got regular visits from friends and family. I guess we'll never really know (although I suspect those "facts" aren't really true)

Whilst I accept that he has blood on his hands, and there is no denial of that, what he did upon release, especially in helping prevent a civil war is pretty remarkable, and for that he should be applauded....but always with the knowledge that he wasn't a saint all his life

He was only getting the same rights as ALL people in UK prisons.

Nailed on fact, plus he was on and off that island more than a whores knickers in a brothel for secret meetings with Pik and co

it seems hard to believe....although to be fair you do know a shit load more about more about it than I do or ever will (and indeed most on here as well)
