January 22, 201412 yr OK, short notice job. The wife has suggested that we should spend the weekend away (not abroad) and we'll have our 8yr old daughter in tow, so it needs to suit her too. She doesn't want to go racing, as she says it's a busman's holiday, so I await your sensible (and utterly ridiculous, of course) suggestions.

January 22, 201412 yr Sensible: Have a weekend in Bath, you can go to Longleat Safari Park and Longleat House to keep the little one amused - loads of nice towns around the area as well to visit - Longleat doesn't open it's gates again until the middle of February though Half Sensible 1: Depending on time of year then hiring a boat on the Norfolk Broads is always good fun Half Sensible 2: Long weekend in that there London, go to a show and do all the free museums, it'll be educational as well as fun! Utterly Ridiculous: Go Camping in John O'Groats overnight and then all three of you set off independently on space hoppers and see who makes it to Lands End first

January 22, 201412 yr Author The dog will probably be sent to the kennels. York's good and reasonably near. Bath's a bit more of a trek, but sounds good and I'm a bit tight when it comes to London prices! Lakes / Norfolk, it's too cold for that. Keep 'em coming, thanks.

January 22, 201412 yr Author I have suggested an "international" sporting fixture accompanied by drinks in a lively, but convivial environment followed by a meal and on overnight hotel stay. But Bolton v Cardiff, the ESLSC, Scotts and the De Vere hasn't captured her imagination.
January 22, 201412 yr does the little one like history C ? if so,have a think about Warwick,obviously taking in the castle. There's Merlin's tower for the kids (and grown-ups alike),the dungeons if the little un misbehaves and at weekends they do a Kingmakers Medieval banquet. Could also nip down the River Avon for even more culture

January 22, 201412 yr Llangollen is easy to get to & a weekend is probably long enough. There's a good walk up to the castle ruin, the aquaduct is worth a visit, & the station, steam trains & railway are superb if you like that kind of thing. Betwys y Coed, Snowdonia, even Chester are all within easy driving distance.

January 24, 201412 yr Good choice Trafster, Stratford is nice for a day out and heard good reports of Warwick castle. On the subject of days out, I would recommend Battle if you are ever down that neck of the woods, really interesting and very nice grounds if the weather is good.
