Massive game now on Saturday, after tonight's results for our respective teams. Holloway started with 4 strikers tonight & is clearly mental, & I don't expect that to change Saturday!

 

As you now know South Bermondsey overground station is closed. However, I've never understood why most sane away (& home) fans go that way anyway. Yes, it's the quickest route from London Bridge to the ground (3 mins and a walkway), but the train is always crowded and it doesn't allow you to feel the build up to a game, ie no walking with crowds to the ground, passing hot dog stalls, programme sellers, pubs etc.

 

Therefore you could see this as an opportunity, and enforced bump out of what's easy...

 

I think the best route is take the Jubilee Line to Bermondsey and walk from there, maybe through the Blue. You could stop for a Pie & Mash, and a pint or two in some genuine old (non tourist) London boozers. The Blue Anchor is a good little pub, or the Ancient Forresters is on the way to the ground (a 10/15 minute walk depending on your pace) on the corner Galleywall Road - local to famous London criminal Freddie Foreman and his family (who still drink there, including his actor son Jamie). Many bank robberies have been planned in that pub, so a bit of SE London history. Pretty straight forward if you look on Google Maps.

 

As others have said, Surrey Quays (or Docks if you are a proper local) is a similar distance, and there's some good pubs around there too, plus a big Weatherspoons (altho that gets full of not hooligans, but lairy Millwall yoof). Again, easy route on Google Maps - plus a small detour can take you to the Ancient Forresters. There's a short cut through the Silwood Estate (keep your wits about), but that might be shut too.

 

New Cross or New Cross Gate is another option. Some decent little London boozers around there, even a studenty one near Goldsmiths (the Marques of Granby), that has an interesting mix of Millwall fans, musicians and local art students. Bit more of a walk, but not by much & you get to go down Cold Blow Lane and through it's tunnel for a nostalgic Millwall experience.

 

Of course, I'd recommend not wearing Bolton stuff in these places or loudly moaning about southern piss when drinking your pint; not that the hooligans would take much notice, but there's always a lairy prat around that might take exception, especially when backed up by a few mates.And to be fair, being obnoxious probably deserves a slap.

 

There is also the 'tourist option'...drink around London Bridge and bus it / taxi it in.

 

If you're are driving google Folkestone Gardens and head there for best place to park. Try and park outside a house; there's no restrictions etc, and about 5 minute walk to ground - follow fans coming from New Cross / Deptford / Surrey Quays heading west.
