Measly? A fee for a player Celtic don't want to sell plus a couple of million for a two year contract. That's a huge amount of money when you are in our position.

No I'm not, but is it a foreign concept to you speculating to accumulate that goes on in business and government all the time the trick is to weigh up the damage if the investment goes wrong and in this case a relatively small speculation early in January could have resulted in reaching a play off spot now as it stands it looks like that chance has disappeared.

That is gambling. We need players I agree. But aren't in a position to invest 3M in a 31 year old. He could be injured in a few games and then we'd be back to square one. Future has to be built around youngsters with the odd cheap experienced head brought in to help them out. We've spent money trying to do what you suggest and it's just put us more and more in debt and no better off.

I heard, possibly on here, that Commons wants to see his contract out at Celtic so that he can sign for somebody next season as a free agent. In reality, why on earth would he choose to leave Celtic for us at this stage of the season? - why would he not just wait until the end if the season?

Im sure that we could have made it happen earlier in the month granted if they wanted more than 200-300 k We shouldn't do that deal but he'd have made a difference to our point return of that I'm sure.

If stumping up the extra cash for commons didn't pay off and put us even further over the ffp threshold it could scupper us next season and beyond.

Finances in the championship are a balancing act.
