As a general thing rather than so much with this episode, I think sick videos show the evil which human beings are capable of. Whilst upsetting, they show the darker side of life which people should be aware of and they may then not be so tolerant of the way some things are allowed to develop in this country/ wider world, rather than avoiding nipping things in the bud because they can't in case they offend someone.

You're right, watching someone get their head hacked off would certainly increase your awareness of the world around you.

 

Just as a point of interest (and this is certainly no pandering or excuse-making for such acts) what do you think they show these so-called Jihadis, in order to radicalise them?

 

Most people watch these gruesome videos because of a morbid curiosity, and most who've admitted to watching them have been big enough to admit this also.

 

Let's not make out watching horrific video is some necessary evil toward being able to better understand the world.

 

I don't need to electively desensitise myself further than I am already, by watching more stuff of this ilk, just living and walking around provides me with more than enough evidence that there are some c*nts in the world who, we'd all be better off if they received a bullet behind their left ear.

I was reading this about the Lockerbie bombing. Yes you're right people would pass out through lack of oxygen.

 

But there was evidence that many passengers regained consciousness on the way down as oxygen levels increased. One example was that a person was found dead with their hands clutching a crucifix.

A farmer found an air hostess still in her seat at Lockerbie and she was still alive. Didn't stay that way for long but would suggest that plenty of passengers will have been aware of what was happening.

I usually prefer not to be, it probably makes me ignorant but I'm sure it makes me happier

I wouldn't say not watching videos of mayhem, decapitation and death doesn't make you ignorant, I'd say it makes you of sound mind and rational judgement.

Never watched the Ken Bigley execution but heard it on some documentary about the dutch bloke, Wilder or something? Anyway just the noise of it made me go cold inside, I've actually had nightmares with that sound :-(

That was enough for me, that line alone, my mind filled in the gaps for me (the meddlesome arse) - fuck knows what I'd think seeing it for real, this however doesn't mean you're some namby-pamby cossetted type or 'ignorant', I've seen enough bad things in reality, I don't need to click play and add more to that particular library of imagery and sound.

They may then be a bit tougher in how they view things in this country and not allow hate preachers and so on hiding behind prejudice etc.

They make these videos to inspire fear and revulsion, and more importantly, to instill hatred and cause ferment.

 

The Woolwich Murderers actively sought out those with cameras, they wanted to spout their bile and justification.

 

Everybody knew what happened to Drummer Rigby, we don't need to actually witness the act - the perpetrators hopefully will be old men or dead before they have any release, figurative or literal.

 

And you haven't answered the question (and again I reiterate this is no form of pandering or 'understanding' terrorist scum) - what do you think they show potential Jihadis when they are grooming or seeking to recruit them? The same kind of obscene videos wherein (usually innocent) life has been violently extinguished.

 

There's absolutely nothing to be gained from watching this stuff - nothing...

What I'm for is an awareness of the evil in the world in the hope that people wake up and stop accepting the likes of things we see being allowed to creep into this country. I'm not promoting the sick vids but at least they raise awareness.
