I'm not a fan of what I'm about to say because it's used unnecessarily at times. But Oldham is a proper northern club. Good to see them back in the league. Chuffed for 'em.

They're going to redefine the idea of what it's like to be hated in this division 😂

Surprised the VAR haters are not all over that. I like VAR but 2 hours before the decision was taken and then players brought back on to play out the final 3 minutes? WTF?

Have to say you have to love the Moroccan team though - that back heel to set up the goal was just dirty.

Not seen anything of the game- just heard about a shit load of hassle and trouble with the crowd.

It's on BBC iPlayer - along with the Rugby sevens and other good stuff.

Live games/highlights etc.

I'm genuinely perplexed how any football fan could like VAR.  I can't even put into words how much I despise it.

No genuine football man likes VAR.

Only gimps that watch matches on telly, have no emotional attachment or have never celebrated a goal with their mates/family can possibly like it.

I like the technology but hate the way it's administered in the UK. Needs to evolve a bit more to take out the human element completely and it will be fine - eventually. I like the 4 second automated offside decision thing they used in the Euros - no messing, no arguments - VAR needs more of that.

Remember celebrating our goal against Everton that would have ensured our survival...and then it wasn't given. Could have done with VAR that day.

Couldn't give a fuck. Swings a round abouts. We had all season to get one extra point.

We don't go down that season, we don't end up with Eddie and Sam and 2 European Tours.

We've had decisions go our way and it all evens out over the course of time.

Life is full of mistakes and nothing ever is perfect. Football is no different.

....plus hawkeye/GLT would solve that goal, Not VAR.

Spot on. Anyone who likes it is a homo. Pass it on.

Fair comments, but that's never going to happen - just take sendings off for "bad" tackles as an example - its ruining some games.  If they just used it for clear and obvious errors - say one goal or sending off per week for the whole division for blatant errors - I'd be all for it because we don't want clear miscarriages of justice.  But its not acceptable to me watching a game that I don't know whether to celebrate when we score ("we" being generic as thank god we don't have it in L1 yet).

It would have been disallowed for a foul on Southall by Blake

It was the same one used at the olympics, that took 2 hours to decide it was offside.

Goal line technology, not VAR, would've given the goal.

... And then VAR would've ruled it out for a foul on Southall.

Probably.

Though I do wonder given the inconsistencies this past season, and in the Euros, if we could be sure either way.

On that basis, get rid.

If VAR existed we don't win the cup in 58 and Super John gets sent off v Wolves.
