November 15, 201411 yr Great advert, but it still makes me a bit uncomfortable that a company is at the end of the day, promoting itself using a war where 16,000,000 people lost their lives as the backdrop, however subtle the product placement might be. I wouldn't go as far as to complain about it, but it sits a little uneasily.
November 15, 201411 yr ...I'm sure the FMCG boys on here can shed some light on how that may make them a shit load of cash. Still a nice gesture mind. Raising brand awareness was probably the prime motivating force behind it.
November 15, 201411 yr ...I'm sure the FMCG boys on here can shed some light on how that may make them a shit load of cash. Still a nice gesture mind. Everyone is talking about it, plus gives that impression of Sainsburys being the original grocer of the nation etc etc.

November 15, 201411 yr I shop at Sainsbury's and I is a fick as window washer innit. They do some smashing offers on fairy liquid platinum. I do shop at Sainsburys too, I shop everywhere, mainly because almost everywhere does some product or other cheaper or better. Tuna, wine and vests spring to mind regarding Sainsburys.
November 15, 201411 yr Any business that uses the First World War to promote it's Christmas products are twats. Doesn't matter how fucking beautiful the advert is. In fact I'm sick of high profile Xmas ads anyway, can't wait for the box day sale DFS ads. Maybe they'll have the widow of a solider saying she got a great deal with the comp from the war commission on a lovely three seater. If you get sucked in by Sainsbury's you're a mug and a fool.
November 15, 201411 yr A big mug here- says more about the waste of life and that humanity can sometimes win out. Was so good that didn't think of it as an advertising campaign. Doubt it will make me go out and shop loads at Sainsbury's but might just grab some chocky- it's for a good cause after all.
November 15, 201411 yr Now Pipes of Peace, that is the only vid you need to watch about that particular episode.

Yeah, and anyone doing anything whatsoever for charity without hiding it is a cunt who just wants to show off. Shops are going to have adverts come what may. I'm struggling to see how its a bad thing that they've done it in a way which raises funds for the Royal British Legion.
November 15, 201411 yr Oh shut it maaaarsh you condescending arse. It about buying to sake and crackers and turkey from one super market over the next, nothing else. If you like those that died used it that way fine, personally, and I work in marketing, I think it's poor form and deserves nothing but to be ignored for the tasteless pile of shit it is.

Another victory for your self awareness then. Of course it's about selling stuff. But due to this advert, no one in WWI died and several current veterans will have better services available to them. How awful.
November 15, 201411 yr They will make few quid for the Legion and a few quid for themselves too. Making money out of those that lost their lives isn't good but they will offset with a few for charity. Hard too be owt but meh.
November 15, 201411 yr So much angst over simple commercials. Stop watching so much TV if its really getting to you, there is an off switch.
November 15, 201411 yr Just seen it. Brilliant advert and will raise money for charity. Well done Sainsburys.
November 15, 201411 yr Stop The Cavalry by Jona Lewie, I've never ever heard anyone moan about that and that must of made him a small fortune. Communist Britain, we cant say a flaming word without some shithouse whinging, they'll be moaning about the poppies down in London next being sold off and raising funds for charities !!!!
November 15, 201411 yr So much angst over simple commercials. Stop watching so much TV if its really getting to you, there is an off switch.Same thoughts here. I take it the same people don't watch war films or dramas etc, as these programmes/films don't look to make profits do they?

Large block at a quid won't make very much (% profit) if it's decent quality - but then again I suppose it's all relative to what the charity in question thinks is a big amount raised It will most likely get folk through the door at Sainsburys which is job done
November 15, 201411 yr What would you know about profit margins on bars of chocolate, Birch? Leave them alone, it's for charidee. Ched Evans missed a trick, he should have said he was on a charity rapey-thon - he'd have been acquitted. Charity fig-leaf it's called, and it's fucking bollocks.
