Never went to a game with my dad at Bolton early on, that was until he got a driving licence, he was madder than me at away games in the 70s with the hired mini bus. My son still goes to the games, but goes with his mates, but meet up now and again in the pubs. 

Would love my old man to come to a game with me again M , ask him every week if he fancies it but he won't go.

My dads a Blue so been a couple of times watching Bolton v City but I've made sure my lads white though and through and he goes most home games now and I love having him with me.

Still go to the home games with the old man. He doesn't bother with aways anymore. He is "too old for a young man's game".

I loved the times with my dad at random away games when we were shite, he would drive anywhere with a gang of lads for a piss up and a laugh. Places we stopped off at were great and he showed us some good pubs were he had been working in the past.

I had a season ticket with my Dad from 98-99 up until I think around 2007/8, summat like that.

 

Too many health problems now, not least mobility issues. I've said Id happily sit with him in the disabled section but he's too proud atm to accept a wheelchair, and there's no way he could walk up the steps to any seat.

 

I feel so sorry for him, hopefully he'll come to his senses and realise that a wheelchair in public will allow him to do so many more things and he'll be able to come to a game again as I really miss going with him.

That's so sad mate, my dad was so active at matches and took my son everywhere to games, i hope your father gets better soon.

My dad is a red, I'm the white sheep of the family... been to one bolton game with him... notts county, new years day 94:blagged a tenner twice, and somehow blagged him into coming, only time in Manny road seats... good day.

 

Will always regret going to my first game without him to some extent: he feared probably half on here, and didn't want to expose me to 80s terraces... cest la vie.

It's funny the generation gap, after to going so many games with your mates, you find out going out with your dad is brilliant to away games in the mad 80s watching him not backing off to any fucker.

My old man can hardly walk now, he's been on his back for years with a fused spine then got bowel cancer but since my mum died last year he's gone right down hill, I keep offering to take him out esp to the match but he declines everytime maybe due to not being very agile. Upsetting really cos my old man was a man mountain, strong as an ox, fearless, very outgoing and a hard grafter. He took me my first game and throughout my childhood so I thank him for that for making me a wanderer.

One thing I'm buzzing about though is my lad is getting back into the whites. Since he's been living with me he's back to his same old confident happy little boy who used to love coming the game

Reading this makes me realise how lucky I am.

 

I owe my old man everything. From a very early age he took me to every game we played home and away.

 

When I was 17/18 I started to find my own feet and fancied going with the lads etc. I knew how gutted he was but he never stood in my way. Just always said becareful. I always made sure I met up with him in ground wherever we were.

 

His undying enthusiasm for the whites never ceases to amaze me. It is and has been totally relentless for the whole of my life. At times last season in our darkest times I only went because of my dad.

 

I just hope I can pass on that feeling and enjoy as many with times at the match with my lads that my dad has with me.

Think we did about 40 matches that season..

 

Try to convince him to come to matches but he's got 2 littler ones now so don't think it's an option

I go to home games with my dad and grandad, always have done since I started going in 92.

Grandad has been going since 1938 so he's a few years on him. He's got dementia nowadays so he's not much idea who's who but he still enjoys watching the match.

 

My lad will be coming with us one game then we can get 4 generations at the match.

My dad used to love driving to away matches but very rarely went in. He'd drop my brothers and my mum and me off, then walk round the town centre of wherever we'd been.

We would be talking about the match on the way home and he would say 'they've got a statue of . . . . in the town hall square'.

My old man took me to my first away game - Notts County on the opening day of 1980/81 season. Used to take me to plenty of away games back in the day until I turned around 17 and started going on my own.

 

He is still a s/t holder in WSU, and I still travel to and from games with him. Had some top trips in Europe with him but Madrid finished him off haha. He'll never abandon BWFC home games until he's in a box

My dad took me in 1971 for my first game. Went to some cracking games Newcastle in the cup in 76. United at ot in 77. The best was the Blackburn promotion game.

My brother got me into the Whites, never did burnden with my dad but we had him come to the ESL a fair few times in recent years.

 

He's fucked it off since we got relegated though the glory hunting bastard!

 

Took my nephew to his first game v Rabotnicki at home, he's not a fan of football though.

 

Took my lad to Vitesse this year and the last two Chorley aways preseason. He's not gonna have a choice!

For 23 years I was at Burnden every other week and since we left I bet I have not drove passed there 20 times, each time though I look and stare hoping to see Burnden yet its gone and gone forever. It is a shame they did not re-develop there but the question is would we have seen world class players and seen the premier league as regularly as we have if we had not moved? I somehow doubt it.
