Now I have a problem with folk who work mainly for on-the-spot cash; taxi drivers, ice cream drivers, window cleaners, etc.

Do they really pay as much tax as they would PAYE?

 

I used to drink with a bloke who was a plumber, his accountant ensured he got tax refund rather than a tax bill.

As I've said during these conversations before. It's nowhere near as easy to avoid paying tax whilst being self employed/small business owner as folk like to think it is.

Had this discussion with a self employed taxi driver,with two kids and a wife on benefits who was trying to tell me he was voting Tory as he'd be better off. His main point was Milliband is a numpty.

Forget Ed, it's the thought of Ed Balls, Rachel Reeves and Chuka Ummuna (my MP unfortunately) setting the agenda on the economy and business for the next 5 years which is very scary.

Nationally there are very few (if any)politicians that seem to be capable of running the show properly

 

Looking at the polls it's going to be a hung parliament again but this time the SNP will be the king makers - God help us all

 

I've got a choice between saving my fuel / Not voting, Lynsey Hoyle or some Tory kid who's main agenda is around local mental health nursing

 

It's either Lynsey or save the fuel at the moment

I get holiday and sick pay and pension because that is the employment benefits I chose.

 

That doesn't get us away from cash jobs being tax fraud. OIff a taxi driver takes in £500 and then he needs to pay his expenses, radio, licence, etc. Call it £400 left for that night. Does he pay tax on that? I doubt it. He turn round and say he'd only earned £100 that night.

 

Difficult to cheat the tax man? I'd say not.

Not that cash jobs are fraud and apart from you accusing taxi drivers of being criminals, wouldn't the world be such a more moral place if more low paid labourers like taxi drivers surrendered even more of their hard earned cash to the govt so it could spend ever greater sums on obscene perks for the public sector.

 

The only sensible approach to tax is to pay absolutely the very minimum you have to.

There's one good reason that there aren't many credible politicians; it's not the best job is it?

 

You'd get paid a fuck load more in other roles in industry and the public sector, and you don't have everyone watching what you do / say 24hrs a day

 

It's like being a "famous star" without (openly anyway) the booze, the drugs, the birds and the adulation

 

Yeah there are perks but those that could do a better job of it....have a better job!

Many of them are not worth that in real life and you have to imagine that it would continue to attract the wrong types, so best to keep it on the lower side, IMO.

I must be the only one that thought Milliband stuck up for himself pretty well towards the end of Paxman's interview. At the start, i was starting to feel sorry for him, but i think he pulled it round pretty well.

He's trying to get us to vote him in to run one of the biggest economies in the world. If you felt sorry for him because Paxman was a bit harsh imagine how he'd struggle with being in charge of Britain.

I might become a fireman. I can spend all day paying loads of tax whilst playing snooker and watching porn with my mates,all while getting paid by the tax payer.
